Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
The Client Services Representative provides the administrative and technical skills necessary to organize, supervise, and complete various medical laboratory procedures within a section.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences or basic sciences required and two (2) years of experience working in a hospital laboratory. Must possess a MLS, M or MLT certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT), or Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences.. Qualifies as Testing Personnel for high complexity testing under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Uses the UCB telephone system.
• Acts as liaison between customers and other laboratory divisions to provide assistance and/or technical advice, directions, and information.
• Interacts with customers toward effective problem resolution.
• Answers incoming telephone calls concerning laboratory test results, specimen requirements, turnaround times and dispatches couriers to pick up specimens.
• Makes outgoing telephone calls to clients regarding critical values, canceled tests or to follow up on client requests /problems.
• Consults with or refers to supervisor, problems beyond scope of position.
• Processes problem samples from the previous workday and provides exception handling following up to make sure testing is completed in a timely manner.
• Assists in compilation, tabulation, and preliminary analysis of data.
• May include clerical duties, typing, and other duties as assigned.
• Adheres to internal controls established for department.
• Adheres to all safety protocols in each laboratory area.
MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Follows established procedures for collecting and processing biological specimens for analysis.
• May be required to operate a variety of laboratory equipment when doing bench work.
• Performs related duties as required.
