rotating schedule between the hours of 6:45am-7pm Monday through Friday and Saturdays 8:30am-5pm

Under the direct supervision of a technician supervisor and pharmacist, performs medication related tasks such as packaging, preparation of all forms of medications, record keeping, and all non judgmental aspects of drug distribution.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Performs duties in assigned practice area. Required to work in other practice areas, as staffing requires.
  • Processes orders using pharmacy computer system. Delivers patient medications to medication room areas and stocks automated medication stations (Pyxis machines).
  • Familiar with pharmacy technology and equipment. Capable of troubleshooting routine technical problems.
  • Prepares and packages most forms of medications. Prepares sterile products using aseptic technique in compounding parenteral nutrition, antibiotics, and other IV drugs.
  • Maintains inventory including floor stock medication. Reorders, restocks, and monitors expiration dates of all medications.
  • Maintains required documentation in accordance with regulatory and hospital requirements and maintains respect for patient confidentiality. Assists in generating pharmacy reports.
  • Conducts medication room inspections in assigned patient care area in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assembles drugs in an accurate and efficient manner for pharmacists to check; maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Repackages bulk drugs in unit of use containers.
  • Assists in quality indicator monitoring.
  • Assists with yearly inventory in assigned areas.
  • Participates in identifying problems or areas for improvement and assists supervisor with problem solving projects and improving operations; participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities and/or teams.


Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have successfully completed a Board-approved pharmacy technician-training program by obtaining a passing score on a Board-approved pharmacy technician assessment exam.

Required:
  • Proficient in math. Knowledge and ability to use a computer for data entry.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions with accuracy, efficiency, and dependability.
