Paralegal Regulatory and Immigration HealthcareJob Overview:
RWJBarnabas Health, New Jersey s largest integrated academic healthcare system, seeks an In-House Healthcare System Paralegal to support the legal department in managing a diverse range of legal and compliance matters inherent to a healthcare organization. This role requires a strong understanding of healthcare law, immigration law, regulations, and the ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, other paralegals, legal staff, medical professionals, and other internal departments. A minimum of 5 years of relevant and direct legal experience is required, ideally within an academic medical center, government agency, or law firm with experience including business immigration with a heavy focus on physician groups and hospital systems.

The Paralegal, Regulatory and Immigration Healthcare reports directly to the Associate Counsel, Employment Law reports directly to the Vice President of Legal Affairs, Assistant General Counsel – Employment Law
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or an Associate's Degree with a paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program.
- At least 5 years’ experience as a paralegal, preferably within a healthcare or in-house legal department setting.
- Demonstrated understanding of healthcare laws, regulations, and policies, including business immigration law.
- Proficiency in legal research databases e,g,Westlaw and document management systems including iManage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing a heavy workload under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Experience with electronic health record systems.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Experience with state audits and examinations.
- Certifications such as Certified Paralegal or Certified in Healthcare Compliance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior in-house paralegal experience at an academic medical center or healthcare system.
Essential Functions:
- Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research on healthcare and business immigration laws, regulations, and industry trends to inform legal strategy and compliance initiatives.
- Document Preparation: Draft, review, redline, and organize legal documents, including contracts, policies, agreements, regulatory filings, and correspondence.
- Compliance Management: Assist with ensuring the organization's compliance with federal and state healthcare laws and regulations, including immigration law, ERISA, Federal and State grants, Medicare, and Medicaid.
- Contract Review and Negotiation: Support the review, revision, and negotiation of various contracts and agreements involving the healthcare system, including vendor contracts.
- Support: Provide support to attorneys in all matters, including organizing case files, opening files in file site, scheduling, assisting with discovery, and coordinating with external counsel.
- Liaison and Communication: Act as a point of contact between the legal department and other departments, external counsel, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Education, Documentation, and Systems Support: Maintain accurate legal documentation and regulatory tracking systems for all relevant funding programs.
