Job Summary:

The Breeder Manager is a supervisory employee responsible for overseeing poultry breeding operations to supply high-quality birds for a poultry processing plant. This role manages breeder farms, ensures optimal flock health and productivity, and coordinates with hatchery and plant teams to meet production demands while adhering to animal welfare, biosecurity, and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage breeder operations, supervising staff responsible for feeding, housing, and caring for flocks.
• Monitor flock health, productivity, and egg production, implementing vaccination, nutrition, and environmental controls to maximize fertility and hatchability.
• Coordinate with veterinarians and nutritionists to develop and adjust flock management plans.
• Oversee egg collection, storage, and transportation, ensuring proper handling and biosecurity.
• Train farm staff on animal welfare practices, biosecurity protocols, and equipment use.
• Maintain records of flock performance and report data to management for planning and compliance.
• Ensure compliance with animal welfare regs, biosecurity standards, and environmental guidelines.
• Manage farm budgets, including feed costs, labor, and supplies, optimizing resources.
• Collaborate with hatchery and plant to align breeder output with processing needs and schedules.
• Address emergencies by directing rapid response and implementing corrective measures.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Three years of experience in poultry breeding or farm mgmt, with prior supervisory experience.
• Ability to work with exposure to dust, poultry odors, and varying weather conditions during site visits.
• Expertise in poultry health, reproduction, and flock mgmt practices specific to breeder operations.
• Leadership skills to manage farm staff and coordinate with hatchery and plant teams effectively.
• Knowledge of biosecurity, animal welfare, and regulatory standards governing poultry breeding.
• Analytical skills to assess flock data, troubleshoot issues, and optimize breeding performance.
• Communication skills to collaborate with staff, veterinarians, and corporate leadership.
• Commitment to high standards of animal welfare and operational excellence.

Work Environment:

• Work is performed in a poultry hatchery facility that includes both indoor and outdoor environments.
• Conditions may involve variable temperatures, high humidity, and exposure to noise.
• Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as coveralls, gloves, and safety boots may be required to ensure safety and compliance.
