About This Position

Reports to the Wound Clinic Manager. Assists in the day-to-day operations of the wound care clinic. Ensures optimal delivery of patient care, appropriate intra- and interdepartmental relations, and acts as a community/physician liaison regarding the program. Utilizes advanced, formalized training and specialized job knowledge of wound care practices, techniques, and principles to treat complex and non-routine needs patients and instruct wound care team in these techniques and principles. Performs consultant duties in areas of advanced clinical expertise. Serves as a resource for the department, and organization. Works closely with the Clinical Manager on clinical outcome measurement, performance improvement, product selection and program goal setting. Assists in covering clinical staffing needs as needed.

Ensures optimal delivery of patient care, effective program development and administration, appropriate intra- and interdepartmental relations, and acts as a community/physician liaison by:

  • Developing strategic plans for the program, in conjunction with clinical manager and medical director, which may include (but is not limited to): marketing, staffing, clinical programs and performance and quality initiatives.
  • Functioning as a liaison between Physicians and Nurses regarding programmatic/team/patient care issues.
  • Developing and implementing with clinical manager and medical director, policies, procedures, and protocols pertaining to the wound care program.
  • Serving as a resource to the Hospital, community, external agencies, professional organizations, and appropriate administrative personnel in area of expertise.
  • Marketing the program in conjunction with clinical manager and medical director in a variety of ways such as: building relationships with physicians, making presentations to the community, and developing marketing plans.
  • Participates and provides direct communication to employees regarding orientation, skills validations, ongoing clinical skills assessments, disciplinary actions, and recommendations.
  • Assisting on clinical staffing coverage as needed based on patient acuity.

Serves as a resource to staff, teams, and interns by:

  • Developing and recommending new patient treatment protocols and revising existing ones.
  • Serving as a primary teaching resource to the department, institute, and Hospital
  • Developing, with the approval of the clinical manager and medical director, guidelines for the assessment of clinical program quality; also planning, implementing, and monitoring quality indicators.
  • Coordinating special programs.
  • Assisting with case management of patients

Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:

  • Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed.

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies, and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR), and other certifications as required by position/department.
  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a nursing program from an accredited school of nursing. Must have current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Indiana. Specialty certification in wound care is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Requires advanced clinical and administrative skills needed to provide outpatient wound care, clinical problem solving, and to effectively train and lead team members. Demonstrates analytical/clinical skills to evaluate complex patients, develop treatment plans and programs.
  • Demonstrates the interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, families, and team members in a professional, courteous, friendly, sincere and understanding manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to ensure implementation and enforcement of departmental policies and procedures, maintain appropriate standards of patient care, conduct in-service training, give marketing presentations, and produce effective marketing and program reports.

Working Conditions

  • Works in a patient care environment requiring physical exertion, frequent changes in job demands, certain undesirable patient care activities.
  • May be exposed to biohazards.

Physical Demands

  • Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
