Position Summary:
National Audubon Society’s mid-level giving program, the Great Egret Society, was established in 2018. Since then, it has grown to almost 10,000 members and $6.8M in annual income.
In collaboration with the Senior Director, Direct Response Marketing, the Director, Mid-level Giving will provide management and oversight of the mid-level program, including acquisition, renewal, appeal, acknowledgment, and cultivation. They will work closely with the Senior Director and consultants to develop innovative multi-channel strategies designed to meet growth goals of the program. This role leads all aspects of direct response fundraising for the mid-level program, from strategy to execution, including annual planning, budgeting/forecasting, fiscal reporting, vendor/consultant management, and production. They will also be integral to developing a stewardship plan aimed at building strong donor relationships, conveying the challenges birds face, and the critical role our Great Egret Society members play in protecting the birds they love. Ultimately this will drive increased donor retention, attract new mid-level donors and grow the overall program. The Director, Mid-level Giving will collaborate closely with the Director, Digital Fundraising & Engagement on digital efforts targeting mid-level donors.
This is a hybrid position based in Audubon’s New York headquarters or DC office. However, we will consider remote within the United States for the right candidate.
Compensation:
Salary range based on geo-differentials:
$120,000-$135,000/year = National
$130,000-$145,000/year = Alaska, CA (not San Francisco), Connecticut, D.C., Chicago, Oyster Bay, NY
$145,000-$160,000/year = NYC (not Oyster Bay), San Francisco, Seattle
Essential Functions:
Primary responsibility for achieving annual fundraising goals for the mid-level program and maintain trajectory for multi-year growth plan.
Provide vision and oversight for Audubon’s mid-level direct response efforts. Works closely with the Senior Director and consultants to achieve organization’s goals.
In collaboration with Senior Director, lead expansion of mid-level giving program.
Define target audiences, program goals, and direct response approach for all mid-level initiatives.
Manage vendors/agencies, contract negotiation and execution, with the support of the Senior Manager, Mid-level.
Work closely with Communications and Policy and Advocacy to develop messaging strategies for mid-level.
Evaluate the success and progress of mid-level efforts and refines business tactics.
Develop, manage and mentor the mid-level team.
Other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in marketing or a related discipline, as well as 10+ years of progressively responsible direct marketing experience, including relevant management/supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and work experience will also be considered.
Proven track record in multi-channel direct response fundraising, particularly in mid-level giving include direct mail and stewarship.
Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with internal and external partners a must.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills, especially for Executive level communications.
Data driven individual with strong analytical skills and experience working with databases.
Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and to exercise good judgment all within a fast-paced environment.
Experience managing, mentoring, and developing staff.
A self-starter with a keen attention to detail; must be accurate, dependable, and able to consistently meet deadlines.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and marketing databases required.
