Insurance Specialist in Boaz, Alabama at Marshall Medical Centers

Position Summary: An insurance clerk works to ensure MMC is receiving the maximum appropriate reimbursement from insurance companies. The review claims as they are paid and resolve issues to ensure that MMC receives proper payment and the patient receives a correct statement of their liability from us. They work closely with other departments and the primary billers to address issues and get claims resolved. They also assist patients who call in with questions about their accounts.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Works assigned claims to verify payment, reason for rejection, etc. and takes appropriate action to resolve claims and prepare for patient billing in a timely manner
• Provides documentation as requested by insurance companies and patients
• Utilizes payor websites and other software as required by assigned claims
• Assists patients as they call with questions regarding their statement or coverage
• Maintains requested statistics and reports

Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience/Skills Requirements

This position requires, at minimum, a high school diploma or GED. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a field related to healthcare billing, business, or a related field is preferred. Prior experience in the healthcare environment and/or customer service is preferred. A working knowledge of computers and systems to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook are necessary. This position requires the ability to communicate in a pleasant, professional, concise, and caring manner. It also requires critical thinking and problem solving to ensure the best care possible for our patients.
