CERTIFIED LAB ASST II at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center – Stanford, Kentucky

Under moderate direction of the System Director Lab & Pathology Services, collects laboratory specimens by venipuncture, capillary puncture, and arterial puncture for subsequent testing and collects throat culture specimens. Performs additional basic laboratory procedures under close direction of techs as proficiency is demonstrated and documented. Exhibit the values of F.I.R.S.T. Works standard work week with overtime as necessary. Staffing may require alteration to regularly scheduled shift. Long periods in a stationary position, moving around the unit, and moderate to heavy physical exertion due to moving are required. Must be able to move or position 50 lbs. independently. Frequent potential exposure to laboratory chemicals that may be toxic, caustic, or flammable. Moderate stress level. Numerous phone calls and interruptions to provide customer service. The task of this job involves significant exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissues.

Education: High School Diploma or GED required. CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) or Phlebotomy Certification or equivalent educational background required or completion of medical assistant program preferred.

Experience: One to three (1-3) years of phlebotomy experience required. Computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.

EQUIPMENT USED/SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED: Works with specimen collection devices including needles, syringes, and vacutainers. Uses centrifuge and basic laboratory tools. Good patient interaction skills.

Certification by approved educational program required.
