About This Position

Job Summary:

Provides professional nursing care under supervision to cardiac patients in a very busy, fast-paced private medical office setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Triages calls and responds to phone messages, completing and committing when appropriate or forwarding to physician for proper advice. Using clinical decision making, determines if patient needs emergent, urgent, or supportive care.
  • Educates patients on testing, imaging, cardiac procedures.
  • Schedules patients for appointments when necessary.
  • Reviews all incoming testing, lab results, procedures, imaging, prescriptions, and previous histories, compiling a complete picture of the patient’s status, and presents to the treating cardiologist for direction on patient care.
  • Implements physician orders and notifies patients of results as directed.
  • Remains updated and current on the electronic health record policies and procedures.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees and professional development activities. Responds to in-office triage requests for patients experiencing acute medical distress. Participates in the onboarding and training of new clinical staff. Reviews the overall workflow to see where adjustments are needed and if overtime is warranted based upon staff needs and communicates to the Practice Administrator.

Knowledge, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with individuals of all levels and establish and maintain effective working relationships with providers, staff, patients, and the public.
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.

Minimum Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.

Valid and unrestricted Connecticut State Registered Nurse License

A minimum of three years of RN experience in a cardiac, telemetry, or intensive care setting.

BLS certification required, ACLS preferred.

Environmental Working Conditions:

Exposure to bodily fluids, illness, and disease

Physical and Mental Demands:

Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients; manual dexterity; eye-hand coordination. Involves frequent standing and walking. Requires the ability to work in a busy medical office environment.
