What You Will Do

The Assistant Director of Counseling Services & Clinical Case Manager oversees clinical and administrative operations within Counseling Services, leading a team of mental health professionals to deliver comprehensive student support. This role includes managing mental health crisis interventions, hospital re-entry planning, and coordinating resource referrals for students in need of ongoing care. The Assistant Director also supervises unlicensed clinicians pursuing licensure, develops mental health outreach programs, and ensures the department adheres to state regulations, university policies, and industry best practices.
  • Provide clinical supervision and professional development for unlicensed counselors and clinical case managers.
  • Oversee staff onboarding, performance evaluations, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Develop, review, and implement departmental policies, procedures, and clinical documentation guidelines.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to coordinate mental health services and ensure seamless care for students.
  • Respond to student mental health crises, providing immediate crisis response and triage services.
  • Serve as a liaison between Counseling Services and external mental health providers, facilitating referrals and coordinating care.
  • Develop and implement re-entry plans for students returning to campus after hospitalization.
  • Monitor student progress in external healthcare services, ensuring follow-up support and collaboration with faculty and advisors.
  • Lead mental health awareness programs and provide training on mental health, crisis intervention, and case management.
  • Serve on university committees to support student well-being and promote a positive mental health culture.
FSLA: Exempt
Salary Note: commensurate with education and experience
This position has been extended and will remain open until filled

  • Graduate degree in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Counseling, or Counseling Psychology or a related field from a CSWE, CACREP, or APA accredited program
  • Licensed for clinical practice in Illinois, or license eligible in Illinois with licensure applied for within 3 months of employment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience with case management.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Knowledge of medical records systems and mental health providers approved by various insurance programs.
  • Understanding of mental health issues relevant to college populations is preferred.
  • Crisis intervention experience and skills required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to multicultural competence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work or Doctorate in Social Work
  • Licensed as a clinical social worker in Illinois
  • Experience in a college/university counseling center

Additional Information: This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status. F-1 and J-1 visa holders must be enrolled full-time and can only apply for temporary part-time roles working 20 hours or less per week during spring and fall semesters, such as student worker positions, assistantships, and civil service extra help roles.
