About This Position

This position is offered as part of the Apprenticeship Maryland program in partnership with Charles County Public Schools. This position will allow the apprentice to gain hands-on experience and valuable skills related to their engineering education. The apprentice will receive mentorship and guidance from experienced engineers in a supportive and inclusive environment.

  • Responsible for creating and revising AutoCAD drawings and standard details under the guidance of the engineering team.
  • Assists in the development of engineering plans and specifications for various projects, including roads, stormdrain systems, stormwater management facilities, water and sewer infrastructure.
  • Collaborates with senior engineers to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements and local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Assists in interpreting technical drawings and translating design concepts into detailed plans.
  • Contributes ideas and suggestions to improve drafting processes and efficiency.
  • Support project documentation and record-keeping, maintaining organized files and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manages workflow ensuring that deadlines are met, and work is completed accurately and timely.
  • Implements and monitors programs as directed by management and sees the programs through to completion. Follow up on actions to ensure proper completion and take necessary steps to resolve problems or expedite actions.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Enrolled in Charles County Public schools and participating in the Apprenticeship Maryland program. Participating in an Engineering Pathway through Charles County Public Schools.
Licenses or Certifications:
AutoCAD Autodesk certificate preferred but not required.
Special Requirements/Qualifications:
Participant of the Apprenticeship Maryland Program with Charles County Public Schools.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures and operating standard office equipment.
  • Knowledge of PC operations and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong math and science skills.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD to create drawings.
  • Ability to initiate daily assignments, follow through on matters, and adhere to training to take appropriate actions to deal with standard recurring situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is sedentary with frequent periods of light physical activity and is performed in office surroundings. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 20 pounds; climb stairs, bend, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects; and use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards. The work requires the ability to speak normally and to use normal or aided vision and hearing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Principal duties of this job are performed in a general office environment.
