Job Description
Summary/Objective
The Junior Estimator, or Junior Project Estimator, is responsible for deciding the projected time frame needed to complete a project and additional factors like labor needs, materials, budgets and potential setbacks. The duties include effective communication with personnel, contractors, and vendors, as well as utilizing computer software to assess production risks and generate reports. Additionally, the role involves evaluating and estimating the anticipated construction costs for a given project, while forecasting the expected timeline for completion. The position also supports the contractor by compiling detailed cost information, facilitating the preparation of competitive and profitable bids for construction projects.
Essential Functions
- Develops, maintains and performs bi-weekly update of project schedules with the input from Project Superintendent
- Resolves major schedule conflicts between subcontractors, suppliers and service vendors to avoid
- delay or disruption of the project
- Performs customer relations activities and promotes teamwork with coworkers, engineers,
- government officials, subcontractors and other key personnel.
- Assists superintendent with subcontractor scheduling, quality, and safety issues on
jobsites.
- Performs other assignments as directed
- Reports labor use to estimating department.
- Reports unit pricing of materials
- Provide strategic assistance to the contractor in securing bids, with a key emphasis on formulating pricing strategies for services and other related components.
- Examine and assess data and documentation, including analysis reports, purchase orders, projected schedules, and other relevant materials.
- Collecting and analyzing information necessary for generating the project estimate.
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license
- 30-hour OSHA Training Course (preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, finance, accounting, statistics or another related field
- Three years or more of related experience in construction, trucking, transportation, logistics, or dispatching

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This position is primarily based in a clerical office environment. However, there may be exposure to outdoor weather conditions when conducting site walk-throughs on project locations.
Physical Demands
Light or sedentary work, however, exertions of up to 50 lbs. of force to lift, carry, and push or otherwise move objects may occasionally be required. The position involves sitting, standing or walking most of the time, but only to the extent required for normal locomotion. Visual acuity requirements are those of reading and reviewing or analyzing information.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position. The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday. Please note that the total weekly hours will comply with applicable labor laws regarding part-time employment.
Travel
Off-island travel is not expected for this position but may be required in the future depending on the needs of the company.
