Summary:

The Town's Affordable Housing and Community Connections Department includes four divisions: Public Housing, Affordable Housing, Community Connections, and Administration, which work collaboratively to execute the Town Council's affordable housing and equitable community engagement goals. About the Role:
This position will perform maintenance on the Town’s portfolio of 296 public housing units working collaboratively with a high- performing, energetic, fun, and diverse team. The ideal candidate will bring experience in building maintenance and customer service, a commitment to public service, and a collaborative mindset.

About the Organization:
The Town operates under a Council-Manager form of government, with the Town Manager reporting to the Mayor and eight at-large Council members. The Town has an approved $150 million budget for Fiscal Year 23 – 24 with 715 benefitted full-time positions and 200 non-benefited positions.

Essential Functions:
  • Completes safety inspections and preventative maintenance of public housing units
  • Performs general maintenance of public housing units, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and appliance repairs as permissible
  • Uses a work order system to track and prioritize maintenance requests and document completion.
  • Provides notice to residents regarding upcoming work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision Exercised: None

Physical Demands:
  • The work requires frequent walking, standing, or stooping, and sitting at a desk or table.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. safely.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Valid NC Driver's License
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field OR any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the job
Knowledge of:
  • The operation of a wide range of hand tools and equipment in the electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and plumbing trades
  • Practices in Federal, State, and Local building codes and safety regulations preferred
Ability to:
  • Manage multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Work independently, as well as effectively as part of a team
  • Communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, residents, and other stakeholders
  • Serve on the departmental on-call rotation
  • Work a flexible schedule, including holidays, weekends, and inclement weather, on an as-needed basis
