iOS Mobile App Developer
Company OverviewAiTA Bio. is developing a Class C medical device insulin pump with a companion iOS application. We're seeking a talented iOS developer with full stack capabilities who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment where innovation and adaptability are essential.
Position OverviewWe're looking for an experienced iOS mobile app developer to design, develop, and maintain the AiTA companion app. This role involves creating an intuitive, reliable interface for patients to manage their insulin therapy, integrating with Tidepool for diabetes data management, and building the cloud-based backend services to support the application. The ideal candidate will have strong iOS/Swift expertise and will own application development.
Key Responsibilities Mobile App Development- Design and develop the AiTA iOS application using Swift and SwiftUI
- Implement Core Bluetooth functionality to communicate with the insulin pump via BLE (custom GATT services)
- Integrate with Tidepool APIs for diabetes data upload, synchronization, and visualization
- Build intuitive user interfaces for insulin delivery management (bolus, basal rates, temp basals)
- Implement real-time monitoring dashboards for pump status, insulin levels, and delivery history
- Develop alarm and notification systems for critical pump events
- Implement secure local data storage with Core Data or Realm
- Follow Apple's Human Interface Guidelines and accessibility standards
- Implement comprehensive testing strategies including unit tests, integration tests, and UI tests
- Follow medical device software development practices per IEC 62304 and FDA guidance
- Ensure HIPAA compliance for patient data protection and privacy
- Implement security best practices including data encryption, secure communications, and vulnerability mitigation
- Contribute to design documentation, risk analysis, and verification activities for FDA submissions
- Maintain and update existing CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment
- Conduct regular code reviews and maintain high code quality standards
- Collaborate with firmware, clinical, and product teams to define features and requirements
- Work with UX/UI designers to create patient-centered experiences
- Adapt quickly to evolving requirements based on user feedback and regulatory guidance
- Stay current with iOS platform updates, Swift language enhancements, and mobile development best practices
- Strong expertise in Swift and SwiftUI (or UIKit with SwiftUI migration experience)
- Experience with Objective-C for maintaining legacy code and interoperability
- Proven experience with Core Bluetooth for BLE device communication
- Experience with iOS frameworks: Core Data, Combine, URLSession, HealthKit
- Strong understanding of iOS architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture, etc.)
- Experience with asynchronous programming (async/await, Combine, GCD)
- Proficiency with Xcode, TestFlight, and App Store deployment
- Experience with unit testing (XCTest) and UI testing frameworks
- Experience with CI/CD practices and automation (Fastlane, GitHub Actions, etc.)
- Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows
- Test-driven development mindset with focus on quality and reliability
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
- Proficiency in backend development using Node.js, Python, or similar
- Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs (or GraphQL)
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure)
- Database design and management (SQL and NoSQL databases)
- Understanding of authentication/authorization (OAuth 2.0, JWT)
- Experience with serverless architectures and microservices
- Experience with medical device software development (IEC 62304), HIPAA compliance, healthcare data standards, and regulated industries with a strong focus on security, data privacy, and patient safety
- Experience with HealthKit integration and Apple Health data types
- Familiarity with FDA regulations for mobile medical apps (21 CFR Part 11, Part 820)
- Experience with push notifications (APNs) and background processing
- Knowledge of data visualization libraries for health data (Charts, Core Graphics)
- Experience with app analytics and crash reporting (Firebase, Sentry)
- Published iOS apps in the App Store (portfolio links appreciated)
- Understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Knowledge of WebSocket or MQTT for real-time communications
- Adaptability: Comfortable with evolving requirements and pivoting based on user feedback and regulatory guidance
- Full ownership: Self-directed and able to own the entire mobile and backend stack from concept to production
- Pragmatism: Balancing ideal technical solutions with practical constraints and timelines
