About This Position

Hiring Range: $74,713.60 - $98,520.24/Year. It is anticipated that the hiring rate offered will be +/- the midpoint range depending on qualifications.

The Port of Corpus Christi Authority (PCCA) is currently seeking a dynamic professional to join our team! This position will be responsible for supporting external affairs activities to promote communications program goals and ensure continued collaboration and transparency with stakeholders, while providing support to the Director of Communication.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Collaborates with internal partners from various departments, as directed by the Director of Communications, to revise and enhance messaging for external presentations, website(s) and marketing collateral
  • Develops, distributes and publishes news releases and media advisories
  • Participates in planning, writing and editing advertorials, features, letters and non-legal articles for publication in printed media
  • Provides on-site technical support for external staff presentations
  • Provides periodic photography of work, volunteer events, and leadership appearances at events that may occasionally occur outside regular business hours
  • Composes extensive reports, articles and blog posts for content designed to engage media, customers and stakeholders
  • Collaborates with team to create authentic content for social media accounts, including YouTube, LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook
  • Develops PowerPoint slide decks for external and internal presentations
  • Designs marketing collateral, including but not limited to flyers, eblasts, brochures, fact sheets and graphics
  • Provides support in updating company website
  • Assists with dissemination of My Port Newsletter by creating content and copy-edits as assigned
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including other PCCA departments to support PCCA brand
  • Ensures an appropriate level of internal and external communications are prepared as needed for issues, crisis or reputation management in the region
  • Ensures consistent messaging, timely distribution of information, and proactive engagement with decision-makers and PCCA staff at a variety of levels while keeping the Director of Communications updated on all work-related assignments
  • Adheres to all PCCA policies, promotes and adheres to the SEAPORT values and maintains exemplary employee relations
  • CPR certified or the ability to become CPR certified within the first year of employment
  • Tier 2 status designation

CANDIDATE PROFILE
The preferred candidate for this position should be an organized, thorough and disciplined individual with a focus on maintaining optimal integrity in support of the PCCA. They must possess the following:

EDUCATION & CREDENTIALS
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field from an accredited college or university is preferred
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) during course of employment
  • Valid driver’s license

EXPERIENCE & JOB KNOWLEDGE
  • Demonstrated technical writing, editing, and communication for publication with strong technical writing experience
  • Fluency in AP Style writing conventions
  • Demonstrated experience with social media platforms including YouTube, LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook
  • Strong proficiency in PowerPoint and Illustrator
  • Experience monitoring and updating content
  • Sound judgement and diplomacy when interacting and communicating with outside communities on sensitive topics
  • History of creating effective working relationships, dealing with the public and collaborating with people from diverse backgrounds and areas of technical expertise
  • Experience planning, developing, coordinating and reviewing work through various stages of production
  • Experience collaborating with peers on publications, such as financial reports, newsletters, fact sheets and marketing brochures
  • Proficiency with audio visual equipment and personal computers
  • Firsthand approach with strong technical knowledge and presentation skills
  • Effective collaboration, partnership and critical thinking skills
  • Proven ability to implement programs or practices designed to enhance service and value
  • Familiarity with the inner workings of relevant agencies and with the Port/Corpus Christi area preferred
  • Minimum six years of experience in areas or duties outlined

TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • Effective business communication (written and verbal)
  • Fluency in correct English including spelling, grammar and punctuation; proficiency in Spanish preferred
  • Effective interpersonal, presentation, organizational and time management skills
  • Initiative-taking individual able to meet goals in a demanding environment, governed by tight deadlines, a multitude of projects and evolving priorities
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks from inception to completion

  • Ability to define issues, perform research, evaluate alternatives and develop sound, independent conclusions and recommendations
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word and Excel, Outlook and other related applications
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply all PCCA policies; commitment to promoting and adhering to the SEAPORT values (Safety, Empowerment, Accountability, Preparedness, Optimism, Respect and Teamwork), state/federal laws
  • Commitment to build and maintain effective and respectful employee relations and encourage and foster a collaborative environment where teamwork prevails. Capacity to support senior management and office staff where appropriate

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Ability to perform essential job functions, including but not limited to frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, typing and occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined ground, climb stairs, ramps, ladders and work stands. Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp/handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • Ability to work in a general office environment, with exposure to the elements when visiting worksites.
  • Ability to operate light-weight highway vehicles and standard office equipment and to work the requisite hours to fulfill position objectives, including evenings and/or weekends, as needed.
