About This Position
- Prepare for sampling events and adhere to assigned sampling schedule;
- Prepare and preserve sample bottles for collection and analysis;
- Collect samples and conduct laboratory field analyses;
- Document and maintain accurate records;
- Operate and maintain sampling equipment;
- Perform routine periodic maintenance and calibration of equipment;
- Maintain and operate monitoring and production wells;
- Operate and maintain treated effluent distribution/collection system;
- Assist in the identification, observation, and confirmation of work performed by various City departments and commercial agencies;
- Annotate and review results of analysis;
- Monitor activities for compliance with environmental regulations and programs;
- Communicate regularly with supervisor to provide input, updates on work assignments, and coordinate tasks;
- Perform related duties as required.
Completion of high school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge in applicable sciences such as earth science, environmental science, biological science or a related field. Position requires applicants to be mechanically inclined and ability to work in the elements.
Preferred Class B Water/Wastewater License
Prefer completion of two years college with one to three years of laboratory and/or field sampling experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience, which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Valid Current Driver's License

- Principles and practices of field sampling, collection techniques, and field analysis.
- Work with precision field sampling and analytical equipment.

- Perform standard field tests.

- Operate a computer with a variety of software programs.
- Drive a variety of vehicles.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds
- Frequently walk during the shift
- Frequently bend during the shift
- Frequently climb stairs, ladders, and other inclined surfaces, and in or out of various vehicles
- Frequently push and pull objects
- Frequently rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees
- Frequently reach above, at and below shoulder height
- Coordinate eye, hand or foot movement in order to operate a vehicle
- Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees
- Place arm above, at or below shoulder height
