About This Position
Aspire Medical Staffing is looking for an Ophthalmology Technician to provide services at Naval Hospital Jacksonville Ophthalmology and Optometry Clinic.
Location: 2080 Child Street, Jacksonville, FL 32214
Schedule: Monday through Friday, between the hours of 0700 and 1700 hours. 40 hours per week.
Compensation:
- Base: $27.90/hour--take home
- H&W: $4.57/hour--allocated for medical, dental, vision, or cash in lieu of benefits
- Total Compensation (Base + H&W): $27.90+ $4.57= $32.47/hour
- PTO: up to 80 hours annually (accrued per pay period)
- Sick Leave: up to 56 hours annually (accrued per pay period)
- Federal Holidays Paid
Qualifications:
- Degree/Education: Certificate
- Certifications: Possess and maintain current certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT)or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology or a completed a formal ophthalmic training program of the United Stated Armed Forces.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (AHA)
- Experience: Must possess two (2) years of experience within the past three years assisting with corneal refractive surgeries including PRK and LASIK procedures, patient selection, and care of corneal refractive surgery patients.
Job Duties:
- Refractometry, Applanation Tonometry, Lensometry, Pachymetry, Pupil evaluation, muscle evaluation, ophthalmic photographer, ophthalmic surgical assisting
- Provide a wide variety of duties to assist the optometrist/ophthalmologist as appropriate to the level of certification (i.e., COA, COT, or COMT).
- Obtain patient histories, perform prescription verification, and maintain patient records.
- Assist in testing patient vision. Test far and near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception.
- Examine the eye, using slit lamp, for abnormalities of cornea, and anterior and posterior chambers.
- Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
- Measure intraocular pressure of eyes (glaucoma test).
- Test field of vision, including central and peripheral vision, for defects, and chart test results on graph paper.
- Measure axial length of eye, using ultrasound equipment.
- Instruct patients concerning eye care and contact lens handling.
