About This Position
The purpose of this position is to provide technical engineering and administrative support for infrastructure and public improvement projects and systems. This is accomplished by identifying needs, developing and reviewing plans and specifications, designing solutions, coordinating with departments, reviewing proposals and plan documents, coordinating inspections, and responding to inquiries. Other duties include attending public meetings regarding City projects, preparing maps, performing legal research, and coordinating special projects as assigned.
FLSA status: Exempt
After successful completion of the six-month probationary period, a hybrid schedule of office and telework hours may be available depending on the operational needs of the Engineering Department.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or closely related field; and
• One to three years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
• Valid North Carolina driver's license and acceptable driving record.

- Performs professional civil engineering work by assisting in the review of construction plans for any activity in the City's jurisdiction
- Provides additional support by attending meetings interacting with internal and external customers to provide assistance as needed and consulting with other departments.
- Monitors code compliance by reviewing drawings and designs for compliance meeting and coordinates with other agencies; assisting with development of ordinances, standards and codes; researches new methods; enforces all local, state and federal requirements.
- Investigates and responds to questions or concerns; interprets City policies and regulations; types and sends technical correspondence; and performs other engineering duties and related work as assigned.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or closely related field; and
• One to three years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
