This role is focused on shaping how critical government digital services are designed, improved, and delivered for millions of people who rely on them every day. You will lead high-impact user research across complex, sensitive, and mission-driven systems, helping teams deeply understand user needs and translate them into better public services. Working within cross-functional agile teams, you will define research strategy, design and execute studies, and ensure insights directly inform product, design, and policy decisions. - Define and lead user research strategy aligned with product, service, and organizational goals across complex government systems.
- Design and execute end-to-end research studies using qualitative and quantitative methods such as interviews, contextual inquiry, and usability testing.
- Recruit and engage diverse participant groups, including users of sensitive and regulated government services.
- Translate research findings into actionable insights, design hypotheses, and service improvements.
- Communicate research outcomes clearly to cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and clients, ensuring findings drive decision-making.
- Guide research direction across multiple workstreams, ensuring consistency and strategic alignment.
- Advocate for user needs throughout the product lifecycle and help improve service accessibility and usability.
- Mentor and support other researchers, helping elevate research quality and practices across teams.
- Maintain clear, structured documentation of research activities and insights to support ongoing delivery.
- 7+ years of experience in user research, UX research, or related human-centered research roles.
- Proven ability to align research strategy with organizational objectives and product direction.
- Strong command of qualitative and quantitative research methods across the product lifecycle.
- Experience conducting research in complex, data-sensitive, or regulated environments is highly valued.
- Ability to synthesize research data into clear, actionable insights that influence product and policy decisions.
- Experience leading research within cross-functional agile teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring or guiding other researchers (staff-level expectations).
- Strong communication and storytelling skills to translate research into compelling narratives.
- Comfort working in client-facing or consulting-style environments.
- Passion for improving public services and creating equitable, user-centered experiences.
- Competitive salary ranging from approximately $170,000 – $203,000 USD depending on experience.
