Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Medical Review Support position consists of documenting the sequence of events, within the structure of the case, detailing information as described within the protocol for that project. This position utilizes company authorized computer and programs to review records.

TARGETED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Arrives to work in a timely manner and sets the example for employee behavior, interaction, and dress code when in the office setting.

  • Conducts daily analysis of records available for review for each assignment and coordinates daily review based on priority and as directed by Medical Review Nurse Analyst or Supervisor.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all internal and external software programs utilized by the Medical Review Team in order to provide appropriate support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

PC usage is frequent, and an employee must possess considerable knowledge and experience in the application/operation of software programs that go beyond basic word processing.

  • Follows existing and new protocols as related to job description.
  • Works as an efficient member of the Medical Review Division.
  • Properly communicates with the Medical Review Division Management team to streamline, prioritize and create/suggest problem resolutions and/or solutions that may impact clients and other departments.
  • Adjust arrival, lunch and departure schedule as workload, client and project management demand dictates.
  • Monitor workload and alert management when assignments are over/under capabilities and client needs are not being met.
  • Demonstrate initiative in all aspects of job functions in an effort to add value to role within the company.
  • When reviewing medical records, understanding what you are doing and why is critical to interpreting information in a comprehensive way.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to utilize company authorized computer programs for placement of that information in reports as directed by the Medical Review Management team.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

Office Machines & Technology:

Operates some or all of the following office machines/equipment:

PC/printer application software, Windows (multiple versions), Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, database, project software. Computer terminal, calculator, photocopier, fax machine, data scanner.

Scope, Complexity and Judgment:

Uses judgment and initiative in selecting the most effective work methods/tools and determining a proper course of action or how best to produce a desired outcome/result. Answers to problems may not always be readily available or apparent, requiring searching out precedent or historical practice. Where work is accomplished through PC operation, projects involve the application of advanced program functionality requiring in-depth understanding of technical capabilities and practical methodologies.

Decision Making:

Decisions are made between a range of choices but situations are typically recurring or similar. Decisions involving the interpretation of unclear guidelines or major departure from existing standards or procedures are discussed with and approved by Management before action is taken.

Knowledge:

General office practices. Operation of standard office equipment, including PC or computer terminal, and software applications as required by specific job duties. Business English and grammar sufficient to write and edit business materials. Sources and availability of information relevant to department.

Abilities:

Deliver on-the-job training to lower-level employees as needed. Demonstrate keyboarding proficiency as required by specific job duties. Demonstrate acceptable proficiency in the use of specific software applications as required by specific job duties. Keep abreast of changes in policies, programs, procedures, standards and regulations applicable to the work unit. Establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by specific job duties. Detail oriented. Assume primary responsibility for overall success of collections on assigned caseload. Delegates and prioritizes work.

Communication / Interpersonal Skills:

Must be able to work well and respectfully with peers as well as supervisors. Ability to listen adequately and receive information accurately while maintaining a positive attitude to accomplish job performance is required. Position may require ability to work under time-deadline pressure at times. Communicate effectively, professionally and positively (both orally and in writing).

The employee may be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 20 pounds.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.
