About The Role

The CNC Machinist I is an entry-level machining professional responsible for operating CNC equipment to manufacture precision components used in heavy-duty truck powertrain systems, fuel delivery assemblies, engine components, brackets, mounting systems, and related vehicle hardware. This position supports Nexio's fabrication and manufacturing operations by producing high-quality parts that meet engineering specifications, production schedules, and customer requirements.

Working under the guidance of experienced machinists and manufacturing personnel, the CNC Machinist I will learn machine setup, inspection techniques, fabrication processes, and quality standards while contributing to a safe and efficient manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

CNC Operations & Production

• Operate CNC mills, lathes, machining centers, and other fabrication equipment to manufacture components according to engineering specifications.
• Produce parts used in vehicle chassis integration, powertrain assemblies, fuel systems, mounting structures, and related manufacturing applications.
• Load materials, fixtures, and tooling while ensuring proper machine setup and safe operation.
• Execute approved CNC programs and monitor machine performance throughout production runs.
• Verify parts meet dimensional and quality requirements using established inspection methods.
• Identify and report machining issues, tooling concerns, or process deviations that may affect quality or production schedules.

Quality & Inspection

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, manufacturing travelers, and assembly documentation.
• Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, indicators, and other precision measuring instruments.
• Verify dimensions, tolerances, hole locations, surface finishes, and other critical specifications.
• Document inspection results and production data accurately within company systems and records.
• Support corrective action and continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to improve quality and efficiency.

Equipment & Maintenance

• Perform routine machine cleaning, lubrication, and preventive maintenance tasks.
• Maintain tooling, fixtures, and workholding equipment in good condition.
• Report machine malfunctions, tooling wear, maintenance concerns, or safety issues promptly.
• Assist with machine changeovers and basic setup activities as skills and training progress.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all Nexio safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, PPE requirements, and fabrication shop safety standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment consistent with 5S and lean manufacturing principles.
• Safely handle raw materials, finished components, cutting fluids, and shop equipment.
• Participate in required safety meetings, training programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Team Collaboration

• Work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Assembly teams to support production objectives.
• Communicate effectively regarding production status, material shortages, quality concerns, and equipment issues.
• Participate in cross-training opportunities and support departmental flexibility as business needs evolve.
• Demonstrate a willingness to learn advanced machining techniques and progress within Nexio's manufacturing career path.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum one (1) year of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, machine shop, automotive, heavy equipment, or industrial environment; technical school, apprenticeship, or military machining experience may be considered in lieu of direct experience.
• Basic understanding of CNC machine operation and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and dimensional specifications.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, and indicators.
• Working knowledge of shop mathematics, including fractions, decimals, conversions, and basic geometry.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions while maintaining attention to detail.
• Basic computer skills for interacting with machine controls, production systems, and quality documentation.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to quality workmanship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical certificate in CNC Machining, Precision Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
• Experience with automotive, engine, powertrain, propane fuel system, or heavy-duty vehicle manufacturing.
• Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
• Experience operating multiple CNC machine types.
• Exposure to lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or 5S methodologies.
• Forklift or overhead crane experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during a work shift.
• Ability to frequently bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions.
• Ability to safely lift and move materials, tooling, or components weighing up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to work around moving machinery, noise, vibration, metal chips, cutting fluids, and other manufacturing conditions.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and safety footwear.

Work Environment

This position operates within a manufacturing and fabrication facility supporting the production of commercial vehicle and powertrain systems. The environment includes exposure to machinery, welding operations, metal fabrication activities, noise, and varying temperatures. Employees are expected to follow all safety requirements and maintain a professional, team-oriented approach while supporting Nexio's commitment to quality, innovation, and operational excellence.
