Laborer in Fellsmere, Florida at City of Fellsmere

The City of Fellsmere is seeking a dependable and hardworking Laborer to join our Public Works Department. This position is an important part of the team that keeps our city clean, safe, and well-maintained. The ideal candidate will enjoy hands-on work outdoors, be willing to learn, and have a strong sense of pride in serving the community.

• Perform manual labor in the construction, repair, and maintenance of city streets, sidewalks, parks, drainage systems, and stormwater infrastructure.
• Assist with stormwater system maintenance, including clearing debris from ditches, swales, culverts, inlets, and storm drains to ensure proper water flow.
• Support efforts to reduce flooding by inspecting and maintaining stormwater structures during and after heavy rain events.
• Assist equipment operators and skilled workers by supplying tools, moving materials, and completing basic tasks.
• Operate hand tools, small power tools, lawn mowers, and other light equipment.
• Help with landscaping, mowing, tree trimming, planting, and general groundskeeping in city parks and public areas.
• Collect and dispose of trash, debris, and litter from streets and facilities.
• Support emergency response efforts, such as storm cleanup, flooding, or roadway hazards.
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work environment.

• High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Valid Florida Driver's License required.
• Previous experience in general labor, landscaping, construction, or maintenance is helpful but not required; on-the-job training provided.
• Ability to lift to 50 pounds and perform physical work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to work as part of a team.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus for serving our community.

Working Conditions

• Outdoor work environment with exposure to heat, rain, and varying weather conditions.
• May involve early morning, evening, weekend, or emergency callouts during storms or special events.
• Work requires physical stamina, bending, lifting, and standing for long periods.
