Job Description
Position Summary
The Kitchen Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the kitchen, ensuring high-quality food, consistent execution, excellent sanitation, efficient labor management, and a positive team environment. This position leads the kitchen staff while working closely with front-of-house management to deliver a great guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, train, and supervise all kitchen employees.
- Maintain consistent food quality, portion sizes, presentation, and ticket times.
- Ensure the kitchen is properly stocked and prepared for every shift.
- Manage food ordering, receiving, storage, and inventory.
- Control food costs, waste, portioning, and kitchen labor costs.
- Follow and enforce all food-safety, sanitation, and health-department requirements.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe kitchen and storage areas.
- Create and maintain prep lists, production schedules, and kitchen procedures.
- Monitor equipment and report maintenance or repair needs.
- Work with management to develop specials, menu changes, and seasonal offerings.
- Address employee performance issues and maintain kitchen standards.
- Foster a professional, respectful, team-oriented work environment.
- Step into any kitchen position when needed during busy periods or staffing shortages.
- Communicate effectively with servers, bartenders, managers, and ownership.
- Help ensure the restaurant meets sales, profitability, and guest-satisfaction goals.
Qualifications
- Previous kitchen management or sous chef experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of restaurant kitchen operations and food preparation.
- Knowledge of food-safety and sanitation standards.
- Ability to lead and motivate a diverse kitchen team.
- Strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Certified Food Protection Manager or Food Safety and Sanitation Manager Certification as required by State or local law
