Trauma Quality and Education Coordinator in Odessa, Texas at Medical Center Hospital

Position Summary
The Trauma Quality and Education Coordinator is responsible for monitoring trauma patients from pre-hospital care through discharge to ensure continuity, quality, and appropriateness of care. This role supports the Trauma Program by coordinating performance improvement activities, trauma registry functions, education initiatives, injury prevention efforts, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Key responsibilities include patient identification, trauma record initiation, data collection and abstraction, AIS/ISS coding, concurrent chart review, data analysis, and identification of trends, opportunities for improvement, and compliance concerns. The position supports adherence to standards established by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), and National Trauma Data Standards (NTDS).
The Trauma Quality and Education Coordinator works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to promote optimal patient outcomes, trauma program performance, staff education, community outreach, and injury prevention initiatives. This position requires strong clinical knowledge, analytical skills, independent judgment, and effective teamwork.

Qualifications
A.
Education and Certification
1.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
2.
Current Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or compact licensure required.
3.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
4.
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) provider training required within twelve (12) months from date of hire. Instructor course is preferred
5.
Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) provider training required within twelve (12) months from date of hire. Instructor course is preferred

B.
Training and Experience
1.
Must complete all ACS or DSHS-required education and training for trauma registrar and/or performance improvement coordinator responsibilities within twelve (12) months from date of hire.
2.
Minimum of one (1) year of trauma, emergency, or critical care experience preferred.
3.
Performance improvement experience preferred.
C.
Job Knowledge and Skills
1.
Thorough knowledge of ACS standards, Texas trauma system regulations, National Trauma Data Standards (NTDS), and evidence-based trauma care practices.
2.
Knowledge of mental health screening requirements and SBIRT processes.
3.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and trauma registry software.
4.
Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret clinical and performance data, communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, manage multiple priorities and deadlines, exercise sound clinical judgment, lead and support quality improvement initiatives
5. Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education consistent with ACS and state designation requirements
