Your Role in Our Success

The Portfolio Manager II is responsible for managing an assigned portfolio of increasingly complex commercial loan relationships following loan closing by monitoring credit performance, completing financial reviews, coordinating loan renewals and eligible modifications, and maintaining compliance with organizational policies, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory requirements. This role exercises increased delegated lending authority, applies advanced credit judgment, serves as a resource to less experienced Portfolio Managers, and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to support proactive portfolio management and sound credit quality.

Here’s how you will make an impact:

  • Manage a commercial loan portfolio by completing annual reviews, financial reviews, renewals, risk-rating assessments, and ongoing monitoring of borrower relationships.
  • Analyze financial performance and credit risk by reviewing financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, operating results, and other borrower information to identify trends, strengths, weaknesses, and potential concerns.
  • Evaluate loan requests and portfolio actions including renewals, eligible modifications, and restructures while operating within established policies and delegated authority.
  • Exercise independent credit judgment when determining appropriate portfolio actions and recognizing when a situation requires additional review or escalation.
  • Identify emerging risks by looking beyond individual financial metrics and considering changes in borrower performance, business conditions, industry trends, collateral, and other factors that may affect repayment.
  • Monitor loan compliance including financial reporting, covenants, maturities, collateral documentation, insurance, property taxes, and other loan requirements.
  • Communicate with borrowers and credit union partners regarding financial information, loan requirements, portfolio performance, and issues requiring resolution.
  • Collaborate across departments including Credit Administration, Underwriting, Risk, Sales, Special Assets, Servicing, and leadership to resolve issues and effectively manage credit risk.
  • Serve as a resource to other Portfolio Managers by sharing knowledge, answering questions, and providing guidance on portfolio management practices.
  • Participate in credit discussions and departmental initiatives by bringing forward observations, identifying opportunities for improvement, and contributing thoughtful recommendations.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and circumstances while maintaining sound judgment, organization, and attention to credit quality.
Requirements:

What You Bring to the Table

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Four to seven years of experience in commercial lending, commercial credit analysis, portfolio management, financial analysis, or a related field.
  • Experience managing commercial loan relationships and evaluating credit risk.
  • Experience analyzing financial information and making credit recommendations.
  • Strong ability to evaluate complex information, identify what matters, and make sound decisions.
  • Experience providing guidance, training, or knowledge-sharing support to less experienced team members.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex credit information clearly to different audiences.
  • Experience with Sageworks/ABRIGO or similar credit-spreading software.
