Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Accountant based in United States.
This is a hands-on accounting opportunity supporting a growing, multi-entity business operating at the intersection of software engineering and financial markets.
You will take ownership of core accounting activities across accounts receivable, accounts payable, reconciliations, and month-end close.
The role offers exposure to an unusual mix of fiat, cryptocurrency, multi-currency, and multi-entity transactions.
You will also help strengthen accounting processes, organize historical records, and establish scalable workflows and documentation.
Working closely with a globally distributed team, you will have meaningful autonomy and the opportunity to identify issues and implement practical improvements.
The position begins as a contract engagement supporting year-end close and continuing into 2027, with potential to develop into a permanent role.
It is well suited to an experienced accountant who enjoys solving complex problems and wants to grow into a broader strategic finance role.
- Manage accounts receivable activities, including invoicing, payment tracking, aging follow-up, and coordination with operations to ensure accurate and timely billing.
- Process incoming payments across traditional banking channels and cryptocurrency transactions, reconciling activity across bank accounts, wallets, and exchanges.
- Manage accounts payable processes, including vendor invoice processing, approvals, payment execution, coding, documentation, and vendor record maintenance.
- Support year-end 1099 reporting and ensure accounts payable activities remain aligned with internal controls.
- Perform bank, account, and cryptocurrency wallet reconciliations while investigating and resolving discrepancies across systems, entities, and currencies.
- Support month-end close activities and identify opportunities to make closing processes more efficient and reliable.
- Help clean up and organize historical accounting records while improving the consistency and quality of financial data.
- Document and standardize AR/AP workflows and identify gaps, inconsistencies, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Support accounting activities across multiple legal entities, including a Delaware C-Corporation and Puerto Rico entity.
- Maintain accurate accounting records across multiple currencies and transaction types, including digital assets.
- Take ownership of problems, proactively communicate risks or discrepancies, and bring practical solutions rather than simply identifying issues.
- 5+ years of hands-on accounting, bookkeeping, or finance experience.
- Practical experience managing accounts receivable and accounts payable, including invoicing, payment processing, approvals, and payment tracking.
- Hands-on experience with bank and account reconciliations and the ability to independently investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, including debits, credits, journal entries, reconciliations, and AR/AP workflows.
- Experience using QuickBooks Online or a comparable accounting platform.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when managing multiple accounts, entities, currencies, and transactions.
- Ability to work independently, identify problems, determine appropriate solutions, and escalate issues when necessary.
- Clear, proactive communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a remote, globally distributed environment.
- Comfort working in an environment where accounting processes are actively being built, improved, and standardized.
- Experience in a startup, consulting, or professional services environment is preferred.
- Experience with multi-currency accounting and/or cryptocurrency transactions is advantageous.
- Familiarity with digital assets, crypto wallets, or exchanges from an accounting or finance perspective is a plus.
- Experience supporting month-end or year-end close processes is preferred.
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, including formulas and reconciliation workflows, are beneficial.
- Currently pursuing or interested in pursuing CPA certification is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Contract position providing interim accounting support through year-end close and into 2027.
- Potential opportunity for the role to become permanent as the business continues to scale.
- Remote-first work environment with a globally distributed team.
- Opportunity to work with complex accounting challenges involving cryptocurrency, multi-currency, and multi-entity transactions.
- Exposure to institutional financial services and capital markets environments.
- Significant opportunity to influence and improve accounting processes that are actively being developed.
- High degree of ownership and autonomy within a collaborative finance function.
- Opportunity to develop from a skilled accounting professional into a broader strategic financial partner.
- Mission-driven work connected to the evolution of financial market infrastructure and emerging financial technologies.
