Countertop Fabricator - Surfaces by GMI in at Vertical Holding Group Inc

Position Summary

Surfaces by GMI is looking for a dependable, detail-oriented Fabricator to join our countertop fabrication team. This position works primarily in the shop preparing, polishing, finishing, and handling stone countertop materials to ensure each piece meets quality standards before installation.

The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in producing quality products, works well as part of a team, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced shop environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Fabricate and finish stone countertop materials according to specifications and drawings
• Polish countertop edges and surfaces to achieve the required finish
• Prep fabricated pieces for installation, including cleaning, inspecting, and completing final finishing work
• Perform grinding, sanding, shaping, polishing, and other stone-finishing tasks
• Assist with cutting, moving, and handling granite, quartz, and other countertop materials
• Inspect finished products for accuracy, quality, chips, scratches, or other defects
• Make minor adjustments or repairs when needed to ensure pieces meet quality expectations
• Safely operate hand tools, power tools, polishing equipment, and other fabrication equipment
• Follow measurements, shop drawings, templates, and work instructions
• Properly handle and protect finished materials to prevent damage
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
• Follow all company safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment
• Work closely with other fabricators, machine operators, installers, and production team members to keep jobs moving efficiently
• Assist in other areas of the fabrication shop as needed

Qualifications

• Previous stone, countertop, construction, manufacturing, or fabrication experience preferred, but not required for the right candidate
• Experience polishing, grinding, sanding, or finishing materials is a plus
• Comfortable using hand and power tools
• Ability to accurately read a tape measure
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Dependable and able to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to follow instructions and established production processes
• Willingness to learn countertop fabrication techniques and equipment
• Strong awareness of workplace safety

Physical Requirements

This is a hands-on shop position that requires the ability to:

• Stand and work on your feet for extended periods
• Bend, reach, kneel, push, and pull throughout the workday
• Regularly lift and carry materials and equipment
• Work around stone dust, water, noise, machinery, and other conditions typical of a countertop fabrication shop
• Safely assist with moving and handling large or heavy countertop pieces using appropriate equipment and team-lifting practices
