Job Description

Drive Innovation in Intelligent Pumping Systems

Wilo USA is seeking a Product Engineer – Motors, Controls & Instrumentation (MC&I) to help develop the next generation of intelligent pumping solutions.

This role identifies, evaluates, specifies, develops, tests, and integrates electric motors, VFDs, controls, instrumentation, and connectivity technologies into Wilo pump products and systems.

You’ll work across Engineering, Product Management, Sourcing, Quality, Manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to take motor and controls solutions from concept through validation, product launch, and lifecycle support.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop Motor & Controls Solutions: Evaluate and specify motors, VFDs, controls, instrumentation, and connectivity technologies for new and existing pump products.
  • Evaluate & Develop Suppliers: Identify motor and controls suppliers, assess technical capabilities, lead technical reviews, support prototypes, and resolve issues through product launch.
  • Integrate Control Systems: Support motor/VFD matching, PLC/HMI/SCADA integration, control-loop tuning, sensors, transmitters, control valves, and I/O.
  • Support Industrial Communications: Configure and troubleshoot technologies such as Modbus, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, CAN/CANopen, and related industrial networks.
  • Test & Validate Products: Develop and support performance, efficiency, durability, and reliability testing; analyze results and contribute to failure analysis, FMEA/DFMEA, and corrective action.
  • Support Connected Products: Assist with telemetry, wireless communications, remote monitoring, and basic industrial networking.
  • Drive Product Launch: Partner with Manufacturing and Quality on pilot builds, manufacturability, supplier qualification, engineering changes, and product release.
  • Provide Technical Support: Troubleshoot motors, VFDs, controls, instrumentation, and connectivity issues for internal teams, suppliers, and customers.
  • Support Compliance: Assist with applicable UL, CSA, CE, and other product certification requirements.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline
  • 3–5 years of experience in motor, electromechanical, controls, automation, or product engineering
  • Demonstrated experience with electric motors, motor controls, VFDs, or related technologies
  • Hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, industrial instrumentation, or controls integration
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and I/O lists
  • Experience troubleshooting electromechanical or industrial control systems
  • Ability to collaborate across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, Product Management, and external suppliers

Preferred Experience

  • AC, DC, BLDC, ECM, permanent-magnet, induction, synchronous, or related motor technologies
  • Pumps, rotating equipment, HVAC, or other industrial electromechanical products
  • Motor testing, reliability testing, FMEA/DFMEA, and failure analysis
  • Supplier identification, qualification, and technical development
  • Modbus, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, CAN/CANopen, or similar communications
  • Telemetry, wireless communications, and remote monitoring
  • UL, CSA, or CE product compliance
  • Master’s degree
