Job Description

Description: Position Summary

The Recovery Center Driver provides safe, reliable, and timely transportation for incoming and outgoing residents, as well as other authorized transportation needs as directed by the Clinical Director or designated supervisor. This position serves as a frontline representative of Recovery Centers of Montana (RCM) and plays an important role in ensuring client access to treatment and continuity of care.

Transportation primarily occurs throughout the Flathead Valley but may include long-distance and statewide travel to locations such as Billings, Missoula, Wolf Point, and all RCM facility locations. The Driver is expected to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, appropriate boundaries, and a supportive environment during all client transportation.


Essential Job Functions
  • Safely and timely transport clients to and from designated pickup and drop-off locations throughout Montana.
  • Operate RCM vehicles in a safe, responsible, and professional manner and in accordance with all applicable traffic laws and RCM policies.
  • Maintain a professional, respectful, and therapeutic relationship with residents during transportation.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and client confidentiality during all interactions.
  • Communicate resident needs, requests, behavioral concerns, or other relevant information to appropriate staff verbally and, when required, in writing through the designated daily log or documentation system.
  • Document disruptive behavior, safety concerns, policy violations, or significant incidents occurring during transportation in accordance with RCM procedures.
  • Communicate relevant client information and transportation concerns to appropriate team members to support continuity of care.
  • Assess conflict or concerning situations involving residents and contact a supervisor or appropriate clinical staff when additional support or intervention is needed.
  • Maintain communication with appropriate RCM staff regarding transportation status, significant delays, route changes, or other issues affecting scheduled transportation.
  • Maintain assigned vehicles in a clean and professional condition and promptly report maintenance, safety, or mechanical concerns.
  • Complete required vehicle, mileage, transportation, and other applicable logs accurately and timely.
  • Adhere to all RCM policies and procedures, including those related to client safety, confidentiality, professional conduct, the therapeutic milieu, and daily operations.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by a supervisor.
Attendance and Scheduling

Regular Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM

Requirements:

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Mental health, behavioral health, or substance use disorder treatment experience preferred
  • Personal or lived experience relevant to substance use disorder recovery services is valued

Licensure and Clearances

  • Current, valid Montana driver’s license
  • Proof of current automobile insurance
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check prior to hire
  • Must be at least 25 years of age
  • Clean driving record required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to assess and respond appropriately to the needs of adults in recovery
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries within a residential treatment setting
  • Understanding of addiction, behavioral health, recovery principles, and the diverse backgrounds of clients served
  • Demonstrates healthy interpersonal skills, adaptability, a positive attitude, and an appropriate sense of humor
  • Strong empathy and effective verbal and written communication skills to establish and maintain trusting relationships with residents
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to crisis situations, including making appropriate referrals when necessary
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, clients, and community resources
  • Basic computer skills sufficient to complete required documentation and communication
  • Flexibility to provide support beyond regularly scheduled hours when operational or team needs require

Working Conditions

  • Frequent driving, primarily within the Columbia Falls area and throughout the Flathead Valley
  • Regular interaction with individuals in various stages of substance use disorder treatment and recovery
  • May encounter emotionally charged, challenging, or conflict situations requiring calm, professional communication and de-escalation
