Job Description
Position Overview
We are currently looking for a seasoned Controller to join our fast-paced team that is rapidly expanding. This role will be critical in overseeing financial operations, managing project accounting, and supporting strategic decision-making across the organization.
The ideal candidate will bring strong construction industry experience, with deep knowledge of WIP accounting, job costing, and contractor financial reporting, and thrive in a high-growth, hands-on environment.
Key Responsibilities
Project Accounting Responsibilities
Collect invoices from subcontractors and vendors; enter into QuickBooks and review with Project Managers and Superintendents
Post expense and sales transactions in QuickBooks related to projects
Perform cost coding and categorize expenses and cost of goods sold
Monitor and compare project spending against budgets
Prepare and submit project payment applications to clients
Generate and review Payables Reports for approval
Process check runs and distribute payments to subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers
Maintain and track lien waivers from subcontractors and suppliers
Ensure collection and compliance of W-9s and certificates of insurance
Provide ongoing financial visibility into project performance
Financial & Operational Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls, policies, and performance benchmarks
Provide regular financial updates to leadership through analysis and reporting
Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
Maintain and prepare financial statements, including:
Balance Sheet
Profit & Loss Statement
Cash Flow Statement
Lead cash flow management and forecasting
Perform account reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations
Manage journal entries and general ledger activity
Support tax preparation and external audits
Oversee payroll processing in coordination with internal teams
Manage company insurance programs and ensure compliance
Set up and maintain company accounts, leases, and financial obligations
Administrative & General Responsibilities
Maintain communications with clients, subcontractors, and vendors
Oversee recurring expenses, including rent/mortgage and utilities
Manage company vehicle payments, insurance, and registration
Support operational teams with financial insights and reporting
Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal controls
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
7+ years of accounting/finance experience, preferably in construction or general contracting
Strong experience with WIP (Work-in-Progress) reporting and job costing
Proficiency in QuickBooks (or similar ERP/accounting systems)
Strong understanding of construction financial workflows and project lifecycle
Experience managing audits, financial reporting, and internal controls
Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a growing organization
