Job Summary

Accord Federal Services is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Technician to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare facilities located at Bay Pines VA Healthcare System and Lee County VA Healthcare Center in Florida. This position is responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, programming, and repair of complex fire alarm systems in a healthcare environment. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring life safety system compliance, minimizing system downtime, supporting Joint Commission readiness, and maintaining compliance with NFPA, NEC, VA, and local AHJ requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance of fire alarm systems and associated components in accordance with NFPA 72 and applicable codes.
  • Test and maintain smoke detectors, heat detectors, pull stations, modules, annunciators, notification devices, control panels, batteries, network interfaces, and related equipment.
  • Conduct battery load testing, sensitivity testing, communication verification, and other required periodic testing activities.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose system faults, ground faults, nuisance alarms, communication failures, and equipment malfunctions.
  • Perform authorized repairs and replacement of fire alarm devices, modules, batteries, and related components.
  • Program and configure fire alarm systems using OEM software and programming tools.
  • Coordinate fire alarm impairments, interim life safety measures (ILSM), and fire watch activities as required.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, deficiency logs, impairment documentation, and corrective action reports.
  • Maintain accurate as-built drawings, device inventories, and system documentation.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and system outages within required response times.
  • Support VA accreditation readiness efforts, including Joint Commission surveys and AHJ inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with all VA security, safety, privacy, and access requirements.
  • Participate in weekly service coordination meetings and maintain professional communication with VA personnel.
Requirements:
  • NICET Level II or Level III certification in Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience inspecting, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and programming commercial fire alarm systems.
  • Experience working with healthcare, government, military, or mission-critical facilities.
  • Working knowledge of:
  1. NFPA 72 – National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code
  2. NFPA 70 – National Electrical Code (NEC)
  3. NFPA 101 – Life Safety Code
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, wiring diagrams, and cause-and-effect matrices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Proficiency with digital reporting systems and documentation software.
  • OSHA 10 certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Ability to pass background screening and obtain VA facility credentials and badges.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and respond to emergency service calls when required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OEM training and certification in one or more of the following platforms:
  1. Notifier
  2. Simplex/Johnson Controls
  3. Siemens
  4. Edwards/EST
  • Florida FASA or BASA certification.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience supporting Department of Veterans Affairs facilities.
  • Experience managing fire alarm impairments and Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM).
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission Life Safety standards and healthcare compliance requirements.
  • Experience with networked fire alarm systems and integrated life safety systems.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
