Job Description

Senior Program Officer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Program Officer based in the United States.

This is a high-impact senior grantmaking role responsible for shaping and managing large-scale funding portfolios in global health and development. The position sits at the intersection of research, strategy, and investment decision-making, where rigorous evidence and cost-effectiveness analysis guide the allocation of hundreds of millions of dollars. You will evaluate complex funding opportunities, design grant strategies, and determine how resources can achieve the greatest possible impact. The role requires deep analytical judgment, strong stakeholder engagement, and the ability to operate in environments defined by uncertainty and trade-offs. Working closely with research counterparts, you will translate evidence and expert insight into clear funding decisions. This is a highly independent role with significant influence over how major philanthropic resources are deployed to improve lives globally.

Accountabilities:
  • Own and lead a significant grantmaking portfolio, defining strategy and making high-impact funding decisions
  • Evaluate funding opportunities using quantitative analysis, cost-effectiveness modeling, and qualitative judgment
  • Design and continuously refine portfolio strategy, balancing exploratory and proven interventions
  • Collaborate with research teams to integrate evidence into funding decisions and priority setting
  • Build and maintain relationships with grantees, experts, and external stakeholders
  • Communicate funding rationale, portfolio performance, and insights to internal and external audiences
  • Mentor colleagues and contribute to strengthening grantmaking practices and processes
Requirements:
  • 5–10+ years of experience in program leadership, research, strategy, investment, or related analytical roles
  • Strong experience applying quantitative analysis, evidence-based decision-making, or cost-effectiveness frameworks
  • Proven ability to manage or influence large budgets, portfolios, or complex multi-stakeholder initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain reasoning, uncertainty, and trade-offs clearly
  • Strong stakeholder management experience with NGOs, funders, research institutions, or public sector partners
  • Ability to work independently in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with strong analytical rigor
  • Intellectual curiosity and a track record of solving complex, high-impact strategic problems
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation aligned with location and experience (high six-figure range)
  • Fully covered health, dental, vision, and life insurance for employees and dependents (US-based)
  • 4 weeks of paid vacation annually plus 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave
  • Automatic 5% employer retirement contribution (US-based 403(b))
  • Fully remote work flexibility with optional office access in select locations
  • Paid travel for field visits, conferences, and team retreats when applicable
  • Ergonomic home office or coworking support
