This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Scientific Director – Medical Communications (Solid Tumor Oncology) based in the United States.

This is a senior scientific leadership role at the intersection of oncology, medical strategy, and high-impact communications. You will shape and oversee the development of scientifically rigorous, clinically relevant content that supports pharmaceutical and biotech brands across complex therapeutic areas, with a strong focus on solid tumor oncology. The role blends strategic advisory work with hands-on content leadership, ensuring that scientific narratives are accurate, compelling, and aligned with brand objectives. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and client stakeholders to translate complex clinical data into clear, evidence-based communication strategies. Operating in a highly collaborative and flexible environment, you will also mentor junior scientific talent and guide content excellence across multiple accounts. Accountabilities:
  • Lead the planning, development, and scientific oversight of medical communication content across assigned accounts, with a focus on solid tumor oncology and related therapeutic areas.
  • Partner with senior scientific leadership to develop strategic communication recommendations aligned with client brand goals and clinical evidence.
  • Oversee end-to-end content development, including advisory boards, speaker programs, slide decks, and other medical education materials.
  • Supervise and mentor Associate Scientific Directors and coordinate contributions from writers, freelancers, and cross-functional team members.
  • Conduct in-depth scientific literature reviews, data interpretation, and reference validation to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
  • Ensure high-quality execution of deliverables following established medical writing conventions (e.g., AMA style) and ethical guidelines.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining timelines, quality standards, and client expectations.
Requirements:
  • Advanced degree in a scientific discipline (PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent strongly preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in medical communications or medical education within an agency or pharmaceutical environment.
  • Strong experience in solid tumor oncology, with the ability to interpret complex clinical and scientific data.
  • Proven background developing promotional medical education materials such as speaker programs, advisory boards, and scientific slide decks.
  • Strong understanding of medical writing standards, editorial processes, and compliance requirements (e.g., AMA style).
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, scientists, and internal teams.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising junior scientific or editorial staff is highly valued.
