About the Role

CivilityMS is seeking an experienced Accountant III to support financial management and accounting operations for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

This position performs advanced accounting, reconciliation, financial analysis, internal controls, and reporting activities supporting one of the largest financial operations organizations within the Department of Homeland Security. The Accountant III will analyze financial transactions, reconcile accounts, prepare journal vouchers, support audit activities, and provide accounting expertise to Government stakeholders.

The ideal candidate possesses strong accounting fundamentals, experience interpreting financial data, and the ability to communicate complex accounting concepts and recommendations to management and operational personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university

• Minimum five (5) years of experience performing accounting, financial reporting, reconciliation, auditing, or financial management activities

• Minimum two (2) years of experience working with standard general ledger accounting processes

• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

• Experience preparing reconciliations, journal entries, adjusting entries, and financial reports

• Experience analyzing financial transactions and researching discrepancies

• Experience supporting financial reconciliations and audit response activities.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Proficiency using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams

• Ability to communicate accounting findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting Federal Government accounting or financial management operations

• Experience supporting DHS, CBP, Treasury, USDA, or other Federal agencies

• Experience supporting audit readiness, audit response, or corrective action activities

• Experience preparing responses to auditor requests and Notices of Findings and Recommendations (NFRs)

• Experience supporting budget execution, reimbursable agreements, collections, revenue operations, or payroll accounting activities

• Experience using SAP, G-Invoicing, Business Warehouse (BW), or other enterprise financial management systems

• CPA, CPA candidate, CGFM, or other accounting-related professional certification

Responsibilities

• Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts and identify discrepancies

• Prepare journal vouchers and accounting adjustments

• Analyze financial transactions and accounting activity to ensure accuracy and compliance

• Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and recurring financial issues

• Prepare accounting reports, reconciliations, spreadsheets, charts, and supporting documentation

• Support financial reporting and regulatory reporting activities

• Coordinate requests for information from auditors, management officials, and program offices

• Support internal controls reviews and recommend process improvements

• Interpret accounting data and provide recommendations to management

• Assist with audit response activities, corrective action plans, and financial analysis initiatives

• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements

Security Requirements

Ability to successfully obtain and maintain DHS suitability and all required CBP background investigation requirements.

This position is contingent upon contract award.
