Packaging Technician II

Supervisor’s Title: Whey Production Shift Manager

Reports to: Whey Production Shift Manager

Department: Whey

Exempt Status: Non-Exempt - Hourly

Work Schedule: Shift Work

The Packaging Technician ensures the final product produced is packaged in the most sanitary and efficient way possible to meet customer needs and the overall goals of the organization.

• Operation of the packaging systems to ensure adequately sealed and properly filled bags and totes.
• Responsible for the inspection of bag seals.
• Properly calibrate the filling scales.
• Adjust all equipment to meet production specifications.
• Keeps bagged product stacked in an organized manner.
• Communicate with all departmental technicians to efficiently manage silo space and production schedules.
• Clean-up after daily production and prepare for supplies for next shift.
• Attend required training and take the required quizzes to be proficient in the room.
• Responsible for completing all safety activities, plant meetings, near misses.
• Complete all job activities following set safety and operational SOP’s.
• Keeps records in accordance with good manufacturing processes and local and state laws.
• Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health Act which are applicable to his/her own actions and conduct.
• Complies with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates (Safe Quality Foods, Food and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance).
• Complies with all company food safety policies and procedures (including Good Manufacturing Practices).
• Responsible for providing food safety and quality feedback to appropriate manager.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or equivalency preferred.
• General machine maintenance knowledge.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Must be able to perform basic mathematical functions.
• Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
• English skills must be proficient to understand, read, write, and speak.
• Punctual and regular attendance is required.
• Ability to determine the root cause of an issue that arises, using skills of investigation, organizing thoughts and conclusions, and presenting these solutions to others.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiple projects simultaneously and delegate assignments to others.
• Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.

• Light to moderate physical effort regularly required.
• Heavy physical effort is occasionally required.
• May be trained and required to operate a forklift.
• Ascending or descending ramps, stairs, ladders and/or scaffolding.
• Frequently involves crouching, stooping, kneeling and/or climbing or balancing.
• Frequently involves lifting in excess of 50 lbs.

• Works in a powder processing manufacturing facility with moderate noise.
• May be exposed to moderate to high noise levels (i.e., production equipment, forklifts, heavy traffic).
• May be exposed to humidity, intense heat and cold, outdoor weather conditions, and fumes and toxic chemicals.
• May work in areas with mechanical moving parts, above ground with risk of fall, or areas with risk of electrical shock.
• May be exposed to ingredients that may cause allergic reactions and may be exposed to various allergen ingredients.
