Job Description
Recycling & Logistics Warehouse Associates are responsible for preparing textile bales; sorting computers, scrap metal, and other recyclable materials; maintaining organization and cleanliness in the recycling area; and operating equipment such as a manual pallet jack, commercial baler, industrial trash compactor, and an electric forklift. Associates must communicate effectively with team members and management and provide excellent customer service to visiting vendors, drivers, and corporate representatives. Onsite training and certification are provided and must be obtained prior to using warehouse equipment.
This is a Part Time position paying $15.00/hr.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Support the mission and vision of Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan.
- Perform work in a safe manner by observing all Goodwill safety policies and procedures.
- Interact with all Goodwill team members, clients, and customers in a professional manner.
- Respect the diversity of others, including but not limited to, those with cultural, ethnic, and gender differences, individuals experiencing homelessness, and persons with visible and non-visible disabilities.
- Process individual salvage categories and meet productivity goals and expectations daily.
- Work thoughtfully and efficiently to ensure sorting accuracy and timely shipments.
- Perform all duties as assigned, which may include assisting in other warehouse departments.
- Other duties as assigned by manager.
Education, Licenses, Certifications and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to obtain forklift certification.
- Forklift certification offered to qualified individuals possessing a valid driver’s license, upon satisfactory completion of 90-day training period and review.
Skills and Abilities:
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Ability to understand and practice safe use of equipment.
- Ability to communicate, understand and follow instructions both written and verbal.
- Work as a team with all staff, including persons with disabilities or limitations.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements:
- Routinely walk, stand, push, pull, bend, kneel, reach, twist and turn throughout shift.
- Work in a fast-paced environment prone to steady traffic, noise, and dust.
- Medium lifting (20-50 pounds of force) with occasional heavy lifting (exerting 50-100 pounds of force).
- Work in and out of doors, usually both in the same day regardless of weather conditions.
- Work in an environment that is occasionally stressful, often requiring short deadlines and shifting plans and schedules.
- This position is considered a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to zero tolerance under the Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan Drug Free Workplace Policy.
