Job Title

Equipment Set-Up Tech I

FLSA Status:

Non-Exempt

Location:

Chester, SC

Summary:

Responsible for preparation, set-up, start and running manufacturing equipment. Accountability also includes ensuring that jobs meet quality specifications, manufacturing standards and that safety procedures are followed while working to continuously improve quality and productivity of manufacturing operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Set-up, operate and troubleshoot equipment to produce parts to specification
  • Ensure maximum efficiency of set-up to include set-up time, materials, production rate and material consumption
  • Machine readiness -- inspect machinery, equipment and tooling prior to set-up
  • Identify issues, which adversely affect product requirements and communicate with appropriate department personnel for resolution
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning
  • Identify nonconforming materials/products and work with shift leader for resolution.
  • Quality
  • Ensure part quality meets established standards
  • Perform housekeeping duties
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Complete all shift documentation/paperwork
  • Shift hand-off -- go over job status and updates with incoming shift
  • React quickly to equipment downtime or other extraordinary condition, and must notify supervision whenever such conditions occur
  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications
  • Notifies maintenance department of machine malfunction
  • Resolve employee relationship issues, evaluate conflicts and determine disciplinary actions
  • Follow all standard operating procedures relevant to the job, position and department
  • Follow established company and department policies, procedures, work instructions and safety and environmental guidelines
  • Performs other job duties as assigned
  • Engage and retain high-performance standards and elevate level of responsibility and performance

Required Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • HS or GED required
  • 2-or 4-year technical related degree preferred
  • Ideally 5 to 7 years’ direct experience in a passenger car tire manufacturing setting
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability
  • Experience of operating conventional machines and working in a production-oriented and results driven environment is applicable

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must possess basic skills to set up, load and unload material from manual and automated equipment with little supervision.
  • Must possess basic computer skills, data entry skills and the ability to operate and load simple computer programs to run the equipment
  • Ability to operate with speed and accuracy, and maintain a team player attitude
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment
  • Requires strong communication, interpersonal, business, technical, analytical, and planning skills
  • Displays leadership competencies, including ability to delegate, engage, and inspire others
  • Able to coach, and train line production workers to optimize production
  • Must have the ability to expedite solutions when situations arise
  • Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field

Physical Requirements:

  • Stand/walk/move about specific work area
  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls
  • Bend/reach/twist/stoop
  • Lift to 50+ lbs. on a frequent basis

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to industrial equipment, heat, and noise (PPE provided).
