Graphic Designer & Web Content Manager

Department: Marketing & Communications

Reports to: Director of Marketing & Strategic Communications


About the Role:

Wesleyan College is seeking a creative, collaborative Graphic Designer & Web Content Manager to bring the College's story to life across print, digital, and web platforms. This position plays a key role in shaping the visual identity of the world's first college chartered to grant degrees to women while supporting enrollment, advancement, student engagement, and institutional marketing initiatives. The successful candidate combines exceptional design skills with an understanding of web content strategy, user experience, and brand storytelling.

What You’ll Do:

  • Serve as a steward of the Wesleyan College brand, ensuring consistency across all print, digital, and environmental communications.

  • Create and design various materials for digital and print that effectively achieve the institution's goals, including small projects such as images and icons, and large projects such as viewbooks and magazines.

  • Design recruitment marketing materials including admissions campaigns, digital advertising, publications, event collateral, and enrollment communications.

  • Edit and optimize photography for print, web, email, advertising, and social media.

  • Collaborate with the internal web team and contribute to the top-level design strategy of www.wesleyancollege.edu to ultimately ensure that website visitors can effortlessly navigate and use website features and functionality.

  • Collaborate with the Communications Team to implement landing pages supporting recruitment, fundraising, and institutional priorities.

  • Optimize website content, imagery, and page layouts to improve user experience, accessibility, and conversion.

  • Assist with search engine optimization (SEO) by creating and organizing web content that improves discoverability and user engagement.

  • Ensure digital and print materials meet accessibility standards and best practices whenever possible.

  • Ensure projects are completed on time with a quality product.

  • Stay informed about emerging design, web content, and digital marketing tools that may support institutional goals.

  • Establish strong, positive relationships with the institution’s administrative staff, academic programs, and various departments to positively impact the College’s public image.

What You Bring:

Bachelor's degree in graphic design, web design, digital media, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered.

Must-Have Skills:

  • Two to four years of professional experience in graphic design, web design, or front-end web development, with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat) and a strong portfolio.

  • Ability to design for both print and digital platforms while maintaining brand consistency.

  • Ability to translate marketing objectives into effective visual communications.

  • Experience managing and designing web content in a CMS (WordPress preferred), with working knowledge of HTML and CSS.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment and provide creative direction and benefit from constructive feedback.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize workflow to meet tight deadlines.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Experience in higher education, nonprofit, or other mission-driven organizations.

  • Understanding of enrollment marketing.

  • Familiarity with JavaScript or modern front-end frameworks is a plus.

  • Experience designing graphics or adapting visual content for social media.

  • Experience with illustration or icon design.

  • Familiarity with generative engine optimization (GEO) principles.
