Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Senior Facilities Manager, performs electrician’s job tasks such as running electronic tests and inspections, cleaning contacts or circuit boards, ensuring that systems are grounded and installing outlets, lighting fixtures and switches. Preventative measures such as replacing old wiring. When electrical systems break down, responsible for troubleshooting and fixing the problem.
Brief Overview of Major Duties:
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
- Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
- Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment.
- Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service.
- Perform a variety of maintenance activities including fundamental plumbing and carpentry work.
- Able to quickly identify potential scheduling conflicts, project delays, and design modifications and generate and implement needed modifications.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Required to operate/drive a golf cart for the purpose of transporting supplies around campus as needed. This may also include transporting employees, residents and/or guests when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of electrical theory and methods, materials, tools, equipment and systems used in the electrical trade.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal codes and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade.
- Mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material and labor estimates and interpret job cost reports.
- Is skilled in the use and care of equipment and tools used in these trades.
- Is organized, able to multi-task, think creatively and adapt to different situations.
- Able to clearly explain steps, provide clear directions, and answer questions about construction processes to co-workers and residents.
- Has ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Must be able to complete training on computer and/or other devices.
- Maintain competency in the position and knowledge of trade/industry advances and new technologies.
- Must be able to effectively communicate in English with all levels of staff, residents, and guests.
Education and Experience:
- Must have three or more years of electrician’s experience in residential or commercial setting.
- Preferably has a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Preferably has an Electrical Engineering Bachelor’s degree.
- Preferably has a journeyman’s card or experience working as a journeyman.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Obtain OSHA 10 hour certification with 90 days of hire.
- Has current and valid Fingerprint clearance card or apply for one within 20 days of hire.
- Has current, valid driver’s license. Driving record must meet the criteria set forth by Royal Oaks’ insurance carrier.
- Has a Certificate of Completion for memory care services training or obtains within 30 days of hire and complies with annual certification requirements.
Physical Requirements:
- Is able to carry/lift/push/pull up to 75 pounds.
- May need to operate a fire extinguisher.
- Is able to assist in evacuation procedures.
Essential Functions:

- Environmental: inside, outside, humid, toxic or caustic chemicals, high places, hot, cold, dry, wet, change of temperature, dirty, dusty, odors, fumes, loud (equipment, surroundings), near moving mechanical parts, vibration, risk of electrical shock, working with others, working around others, working alone
