Job Description
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Merchandising & Processing Associate supports the daily operations of the Thrift Store by processing donated merchandise, maintaining attractive retail displays, assisting customers, and helping maximize store sales. This position contributes directly to the Mission's ability to fund life-changing programs through an organized, welcoming, and profitable retail environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sorting and Processing
- Process, price, and prepare donated items for sale following established pricing guidelines and management direction.
- Check donated clothing for tears, frays, stains, etc. Sort clothing for the sales floor, clothing closet, or recycling based on store policies.
- Hang clothing on appropriate hangers and place them on correct merchandising racks.
- Maintain a clean and organized work space.
Display and Marketing
- Collaborate with Thrift Store management to merchandise products, promote featured items, and develop creative strategies to increase sales.
- Stage and organize the sales floor in order to achieve greater sales and maximize profits.
- Maintain a clean, organized and appealing sales floor.
Customer Service
- Provide exceptional customer service by greeting customers, assisting with purchases, resolving concerns, and building positive relationships with customers, volunteers, and clients.
- Report suspicious customer behavior or problems to management.
- Assist with store coverage as needed, including cashiering and sales floor support.
General
- Meet productivity standards for processing donations.
- Maintain merchandising standards.
- Follow safety procedures.
- Support loss prevention efforts.
- Maintain confidentiality when appropriate.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Retail, merchandising, or customer service experience is preferred.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Christian with a ministry mindset, utilizing the skills, training and experience God has provided.
- Problem solver with regard to people and things, able to offer effective solutions while remaining calm, respectful and compassionate.
- Able to work with people in varied circumstances related to addiction including recovery and mental illness. Able to treat individuals with dignity and respect in all situations.
- Safety conscious with a strong knowledge of retail and warehouse operations.
- Works well with others, able to teach and train “on the job” while completing required duties.
- Excellent manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination.
- Good organizational skills with regard to people and things.
- Must be honest, have integrity, and a strong work ethic.

The majority of this position requires work indoors, with clients of the WSRM.
Must be able to:
- Stand for extended periods.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Bend, stoop, reach, and climb as needed.
- Perform repetitive hand movements for sorting, tagging, and hanging merchandise.
