Respiratory Therapist in Allegan , Michigan at Beacon Health System

Beacon Health System is seeking a Respiratory Therapist I to join our team in Allegan, MI on a part-time night shift schedule. This role provides pulmonary rehabilitation services and supports cardiac rehabilitation and supervised exercise therapy programs in a collaborative, patient-focused environment.

Reporting to the Medical Director, the Respiratory Therapist I works alongside Exercise Physiologists, Registered Nurses, and other healthcare professionals to promote safe exercise participation, improve respiratory health, and enhance quality of life for patients with pulmonary and cardiovascular conditions.

• Provide pulmonary rehabilitation services according to physician orders and established clinical protocols.
• Assist with Traditional Cardiac Rehabilitation and Supervised Exercise Therapy (SET) programs.
• Perform respiratory assessments and monitor patient progress throughout rehabilitation sessions.
• Educate patients and families on pulmonary conditions, breathing techniques, oxygen therapy, exercise safety, and disease management.
• Perform ordered pulmonary function and pulmonary stress testing.
• Evaluate testing results, recognize invalid findings, and report results appropriately.
• Prepare, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot pulmonary function testing equipment.
• Ensure patient safety during exercise and rehabilitation activities.
• Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes and support recovery goals.

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy.
• Current Respiratory Therapist license in the State of Michigan.
• Current BLS/CPR certification.
• Less than two years of respiratory therapy experience or qualifications consistent with a Respiratory Therapist I classification.
• Strong communication and patient education skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

• Credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
• Membership or certification through the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC).
• Experience in pulmonary rehabilitation, cardiopulmonary care, or respiratory therapy clinical settings.
• ACLS certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
• Interest in pursuing AACVPR Pulmonary Rehabilitation Certification.

• Knowledge of respiratory therapy practices, procedures, and patient care principles.
• Ability to perform respiratory assessments and monitor patient response to treatment.
• Understanding of respiratory and exercise equipment operation and safety.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment.

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
• Ability to push equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to lift or assist patients in accordance with safe patient handling guidelines.
• Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity required for patient monitoring and equipment operation.
