Position Description
Harvard University’s Faculty of Divinity seeks to appoint a full-time tenure-track faculty member in Buddhist Studies. We welcome applications from specialists in Theravada, Mahayana in South Asia, or other foci of Buddhist Studies such as monasticism, literature, philosophy, ethics, culture, gender, meditation, or ritual as practiced in premodern or early modern South or Southeast Asia. Applicants must have strong grounding in one or more South or Southeast Asian languages pertinent to their area of study.
Basic Qualifications
Applicants should be competent in the appropriate research languages and be able to teach and advise at the doctoral and master’s levels. The successful candidate will work closely with students in the Divinity School’s Master of Divinity, Master of Theological Studies, Buddhist Ministry Initiative, and Master of Religion in Public Life programs, as well as PhD candidates in the Study of Religion in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. They will also have an opportunity to teach undergraduates in Harvard College and to collaborate with colleagues and students in other departments and schools in the University. Excellence in teaching, scholarship, and research is expected. The doctoral degree must be held by June 30, 2027.
