This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Strategy Lead, BC Improved Forest Management based in Canada.

The Strategy Lead will guide efforts to transform forest management across British Columbia while advancing ambitious conservation and improved forest management goals. This senior role combines strategic leadership, systems thinking, partnership development, and adaptive management to influence change at scale. You will oversee a portfolio of place-based initiatives that work alongside First Nations to develop practical models for conservation and resilient forest management. At the same time, you will help strengthen the policy, financing, and partnership conditions needed to enable broader transformation. Working across interdisciplinary teams, governments, industry, funders, and conservation organizations, you will connect local action with province-wide strategy. • Lead the Improved Forest Management (IFM) strategy in British Columbia, providing strategic direction and ensuring progress toward long-term conservation and forest management objectives.
• Own and periodically refine the IFM Theory of Change, using strategy reviews and emerging insights to maintain a clear and effective path toward impact.
• Work with metrics and performance teams to establish success indicators and systems for monitoring progress against 2030 goals.
• Monitor developments, risks, opportunities, and emerging trends across conservation, forestry, climate, public policy, and Indigenous rights, adapting priorities and approaches as needed.
• Build alignment with First Nations, governments, forest-sector organizations, funders, NGOs, and other strategic partners.
• Collaborate with policy colleagues to advance enabling conditions and policies that support Indigenous-led conservation and improved forest management.
• Represent the IFM strategy across internal and external audiences, building understanding, support, and collaboration around shared objectives.
• Coordinate closely with conservation, forestry, climate, and other strategy teams to integrate priorities, share learning, and strengthen implementation.
• Foster collaboration across programs and geographies, including partnerships with related regional initiatives, to scale effective approaches and strengthen organizational learning.
• Partner with project management colleagues on budgeting, work planning, risk management, and adaptive management systems.
• Lead the IFM team, creating a collaborative, inclusive, high-performing environment that encourages innovation, professional growth, and wellbeing.
• Travel approximately 10–20% and work flexible hours when required to support partnerships, meetings, and strategic priorities.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least 7 years of experience in conservation, natural resource management, forestry, or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated experience managing complex or multi-project portfolios, including financial management and coordination of professionals, partners, and external stakeholders.
• Proven experience developing and maintaining partnerships with First Nations, nonprofit organizations, community groups, government agencies, or other relevant stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of forest and natural resource management policy and related issues in British Columbia.
• Systems-thinking mindset with the ability to understand complex relationships, identify opportunities for change, and connect local initiatives with broader strategic outcomes.
• Familiarity with the Indigenous rights landscape and related policy and governance considerations in British Columbia and Canada.
• Experience negotiating complex agreements or partnerships involving government bodies and private-sector organizations.
• Demonstrated team leadership experience, including setting objectives, motivating colleagues, supporting performance, and fostering team wellbeing.
• Strong strategic, analytical, communication, relationship-building, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work effectively across diverse perspectives and organizational boundaries while balancing technical, conservation, economic, and relational considerations.
