Job Description

US International Tax Associate

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a US International Tax Associate based in United States.

This is a fully remote opportunity supporting US citizens and families living around the world with their expatriate tax obligations. You’ll work across the full tax-return preparation lifecycle, helping ensure complex international filings are accurate, timely, and client-focused. The role combines technical tax preparation with proactive communication and close collaboration across a distributed team. You’ll gain exposure to a broad range of international tax forms and evolving US expat tax requirements. The environment is cloud-based, collaborative, and designed to give professionals autonomy while maintaining strong team support. This position is part of a structured January 2027 onboarding cohort and requires full-time availability beginning in January 2027.

Accountabilities
  • Support the preparation of US individual income tax returns for Americans living abroad, contributing to projects from initial documentation through completion and filing.
  • Prepare and work with international tax forms, including Forms 2555, 1116, and 8833, while assisting with more complex filings such as Forms 5471, 8865, 8858, 3520, and 8621.
  • Collaborate with tax professionals to ensure assignments meet established quality standards, production schedules, and client-service expectations.
  • Communicate proactively with clients to collect required documentation, clarify information, provide project updates, and support a positive client experience.
  • Follow established production calendars and workflows to ensure accurate and timely completion of tax projects.
  • Participate in team meetings, share knowledge, and contribute to ongoing understanding of changing expatriate tax laws, IRS guidance, and international tax developments.
  • Work effectively within a fully distributed team while maintaining accountability for individual deliverables, deadlines, and quality.
  • Use technology and cloud-based tools to streamline routine work and focus attention on higher-value and more complex tax matters.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience specifically preparing US expatriate or international individual tax returns.
  • Practical knowledge of international tax forms and reporting requirements, with strong attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both clients and colleagues.
  • Proactive, self-motivated approach and the ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative remote team.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tax projects and deadlines within established production schedules.
  • Comfort working in a cloud-based environment and adapting quickly to technology-enabled workflows.
  • CPA license or IRS Enrolled Agent status, or active pursuit of either credential, is preferred.
  • Advanced experience with complex international forms such as Forms 5471 or 8621 is a plus.
  • Previous experience working in a fully remote, distributed organization is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated interest in staying current with IRS updates, international tax treaties, and evolving expatriate tax regulations is preferred.
  • Must be available to begin full-time work in January 2027; candidates with commitments or notice periods extending beyond the onboarding date will not be considered for advancement.
Benefits
  • Fully remote work with the flexibility to live and work from anywhere.
  • Transparent compensation model based on tenure, credentials such as CPA/EA status, and seniority.
  • Performance incentive bonuses issued in June and October for exceeding baseline KPIs.
  • Earning potential linked to individual efficiency and annual pricing reviews.
  • Professional development and mentorship within a supportive, growth-oriented environment.
  • Firm-sponsored annual events and team meet-ups.
  • Technology-enabled workflows designed to reduce manual tasks and allow greater focus on complex, high-value work.
  • Collaborative, globally distributed culture focused on integrity, kindness, autonomy, and continuous growth.
