This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a US International Tax Associate based in United States.
This is a fully remote opportunity supporting US citizens and families living around the world with their expatriate tax obligations. You’ll work across the full tax-return preparation lifecycle, helping ensure complex international filings are accurate, timely, and client-focused. The role combines technical tax preparation with proactive communication and close collaboration across a distributed team. You’ll gain exposure to a broad range of international tax forms and evolving US expat tax requirements. The environment is cloud-based, collaborative, and designed to give professionals autonomy while maintaining strong team support. This position is part of a structured January 2027 onboarding cohort and requires full-time availability beginning in January 2027.
- Support the preparation of US individual income tax returns for Americans living abroad, contributing to projects from initial documentation through completion and filing.
- Prepare and work with international tax forms, including Forms 2555, 1116, and 8833, while assisting with more complex filings such as Forms 5471, 8865, 8858, 3520, and 8621.
- Collaborate with tax professionals to ensure assignments meet established quality standards, production schedules, and client-service expectations.
- Communicate proactively with clients to collect required documentation, clarify information, provide project updates, and support a positive client experience.
- Follow established production calendars and workflows to ensure accurate and timely completion of tax projects.
- Participate in team meetings, share knowledge, and contribute to ongoing understanding of changing expatriate tax laws, IRS guidance, and international tax developments.
- Work effectively within a fully distributed team while maintaining accountability for individual deliverables, deadlines, and quality.
- Use technology and cloud-based tools to streamline routine work and focus attention on higher-value and more complex tax matters.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience specifically preparing US expatriate or international individual tax returns.
- Practical knowledge of international tax forms and reporting requirements, with strong attention to accuracy and detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both clients and colleagues.
- Proactive, self-motivated approach and the ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative remote team.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tax projects and deadlines within established production schedules.
- Comfort working in a cloud-based environment and adapting quickly to technology-enabled workflows.
- CPA license or IRS Enrolled Agent status, or active pursuit of either credential, is preferred.
- Advanced experience with complex international forms such as Forms 5471 or 8621 is a plus.
- Previous experience working in a fully remote, distributed organization is advantageous.
- Demonstrated interest in staying current with IRS updates, international tax treaties, and evolving expatriate tax regulations is preferred.
- Must be available to begin full-time work in January 2027; candidates with commitments or notice periods extending beyond the onboarding date will not be considered for advancement.
