Position Summary

The Assistant Sales Manager supports the Sales Manager in overseeing daily dealership sales operations, team performance, customer experience, and inventory management. This role assists in coaching sales staff, closing deals, managing showroom traffic, and ensuring sales processes are executed efficiently and in compliance with dealership standards. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with automotive sales experience and the ability to motivate a team while maintaining excellent customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Sales Manager in overseeing daily sales department operations.
  • Support, train, and coach sales associates to improve performance and customer experience.
  • Assist in closing vehicle sales and supporting deal negotiations.
  • Monitor showroom traffic, lead flow, and CRM activity to ensure timely follow-up.
  • Ensure sales processes are followed consistently from lead to delivery.
  • Help manage inventory presentation, pricing, and vehicle merchandising.
  • Review and monitor sales performance metrics and team goals.
  • Assist in handling customer concerns and resolving escalated sales issues.
  • Support desk deals, trade-in appraisals, and vehicle valuations.
  • Coordinate with finance, service, and other departments to ensure smooth transactions.
  • Participate in hiring, training, and onboarding of sales staff.
  • Conduct daily sales meetings and provide motivation and direction to the team.
  • Ensure compliance with dealership policies and manufacturer standards.
  • Assist in maintaining a professional and customer-focused showroom environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Sales Manager or General Manager.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Strong leadership, communication, and coaching skills.
  • Excellent customer service and sales abilities.
  • Ability to motivate and manage a sales team effectively.
  • Strong negotiation and closing skills.
  • Knowledge of automotive sales processes and dealership operations.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and dealership software.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of automotive sales experience required.
  • Prior experience as a Senior Sales Associate, Desk Manager, or Sales Lead preferred.
  • Management or supervisory experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout showroom and lot.
  • Ability to sit for periods while completing administrative or desk deal work.
  • Ability to drive and operate vehicles for demonstrations and test drives.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25–50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically.

Work Environment

Fast-paced automotive dealership sales environment with frequent interaction with customers, sales staff, and management. Work includes indoor showroom operations and outdoor vehicle demonstrations, with moderate noise levels and occasional extended hours based on sales volume and dealership needs.
