Description:

The Patient Services Representative will be responsible for scheduling patient appointments, performing insurance verification and obtaining prior authorizations, with a strong understanding of insurance benefits, medical billing, and claims, while clearly communicating insurance requirements and financial responsibilities to patients. The position will also assist with daily administrative tasks to ensure a smooth and positive patient experience. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a passion for providing exceptional customer service in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Patient Check-In and Check-Out: Greet patients in a courteous and professional manner upon arrival at the practice. Verify patient demographic and insurance information, updating records as necessary.
  • Appointment Scheduling: Schedule patient appointments accurately, ensuring appropriate time slots and provider availability. Coordinate scheduling of follow-up appointments, referrals, and diagnostic tests as directed by healthcare providers.
  • Insurance Verification and Authorization: Verify patient insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits using electronic systems or contacting insurance carriers. Obtain pre-authorizations and referrals for procedures and services as required by insurance plans.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with administrative tasks, such as filing, faxing, scanning, and organizing medical records. Perform other duties as assigned by practice management or healthcare providers.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or certification in healthcare administration preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a customer service or administrative role, preferably in a healthcare or medical office setting.
  • 1–2 years of experience with heavy insurance verification, prior authorizations, insurance benefits, and basic medical billing/claims, with the ability to clearly explain insurance requirements and financial responsibilities to patients.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using computer software applications, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and office equipment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification processes, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards patients and their families.
