MARTIN Technologies is seeking a hands-on Dynamometer Test Engineer / Technologist to support automotive powertrain and propulsion testing operations in Dearborn, Michigan.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly in a dyno test cell environment, solving technical problems, validating test data, working with instrumentation, and supporting engineering teams.
We are looking for candidates who can combine strong technical knowledge with hands-on test cell experience.
What You’ll Do
- Build, validate, and execute dynamometer tests according to standardized test procedures and engineering requirements.
- Perform initial test cell software setup and configuration for incoming Units Under Test (UUTs).
- Verify test data integrity, accuracy, and completeness before data is transferred to the database for engineering review.
- Verify test cell instrumentation and calibration to ensure accurate and reliable data acquisition.
- Review daily Quality Assurance (QA) data and verify that collected parameters remain within established tolerances.
- Investigate abnormal readings, data deviations, and potential test cell problems.
- Troubleshoot test cell hardware, software, instrumentation, controls, and data acquisition issues to minimize downtime.
- Serve as a primary point of contact between requesting engineers, instrumentation teams, facility operations, and test cell personnel.
- Coordinate pre-test discussions with engineering and facility scheduling teams to understand upcoming UUT testing requirements.
- Identify required instrumentation, test configurations, and facility support before UUT installation.
- Monitor test cell utilization and follow best practices to improve uptime, efficiency, and cell optimization.
- Maintain accurate testing documentation and support safe test cell operations.
- Experience with dynamometer or automotive test cell operations.
- Hands-on experience with engine, powertrain, propulsion, vehicle, chassis, transmission, or driveline testing.
- Knowledge of test cell instrumentation, sensors, calibration, and data acquisition systems.
- Experience setting up and executing engineering test procedures.
- Ability to review and validate engineering test data.
- Experience troubleshooting test cell equipment, software, instrumentation, or DAQ issues.
- Understanding of UUT setup and test cell configuration.
- Ability to identify abnormal test results and investigate root causes.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with engineers and technical teams.
- Strong attention to safety, data quality, accuracy, and test efficiency.
- Automotive OEM, Tier 1, powertrain testing, or engineering services experience is highly preferred.
