This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior HVAC Engineer 1 - Nuclear based in the United States.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to complex HVAC engineering projects supporting critical nuclear and industrial facilities.
You will design, analyze, and troubleshoot sophisticated heating, ventilation, chilled water, and environmental control systems.
The position combines detailed engineering work with cross-functional collaboration across engineers, project managers, clients, and suppliers.
You will contribute to projects throughout the design lifecycle, from engineering studies and calculations to specifications and detailed system design.
The role also provides exposure to facility assessments, modernization initiatives, and technology-enabled engineering workflows.

- Design and develop HVAC systems for complex facilities, including commercial and industrial ventilation, control room HVAC, laboratory HVAC, chilled water, and heating systems.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve a broad range of HVAC engineering issues while developing practical and technically sound solutions.
- Collaborate with engineers and other disciplines to develop integrated HVAC systems that meet project requirements and applicable standards.
- Support the planning, scheduling, execution, and coordination of detailed engineering and facility design activities.
- Perform engineering calculations and develop detailed HVAC system designs, drawings, diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Prepare technical specifications for HVAC equipment and systems.
- Develop engineering studies and provide technical analysis to support project decisions.
- Create design flow diagrams and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Provide engineering support to other engineers, project managers, client representatives, and suppliers to ensure complete, accurate, and timely project delivery.
- Assist senior engineers in evaluating existing facilities and developing recommendations for HVAC upgrades, replacements, and improvements.
- Present technical findings and recommendations to clients, project teams, and peers when required.
- Apply relevant ASHRAE requirements and current HVAC industry codes and standards throughout the design process.
- Support the effective adoption of modern engineering tools, automation, and AI-enabled workflows to improve efficiency, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
- Guide or oversee engineering automation and process-improvement activities, including the appropriate use and validation of AI-generated outputs where applicable.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-accredited program.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience designing HVAC, ventilation, heating, and chilled water systems for laboratory and/or industrial facilities.
- Demonstrated experience developing detailed HVAC system designs, engineering calculations, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency with TRACE 700 or Carrier HAP.
- Ability to develop design flow diagrams and P&IDs.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC and ventilation-related codes, standards, and industry practices.
- Familiarity with ASHRAE standards and current HVAC engineering requirements.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, project managers, clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to support and guide others in using data, automation, and modern engineering tools to improve workflows.
- Experience overseeing or reviewing engineering automation using tools such as Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel is valued but not required.
- Additional education, certification, or experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields is valued.
- Experience with AutoCAD, CADME, or MicroStation is a plus.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
- ASHRAE membership is valued.

- Competitive salary range of $84,762–$129,498, depending on qualifications, experience, and applicable location.
