Job Description
Job Summary:
The Licensed Vocational Nurse performs basic nursing functions within the clinical setting and management of patient follow up. Activities of the Licensed Vocational Nurse are performed under the supervision of the RN and Nurse Manager.
Essential Functions:
- Performs nursing care within the clinical areas within the scope of Practice of an LVN in the State of Texas. Includes, but is not limited to: Medication administration, patient teaching; assisting with patient intake and discharge, assessing walk-in patients; immunization administration, assisting with flow of patients.
- Assists patients with questions regarding medication use, side effects, etc.
- Reads and verify prescriptions.
- Provides patient care and assessments for walk-in patients.
- Consults with Provider and maintains required documentation in Electronic Medical Records.
- Acts as the immediate on-site supervisor of clinic nursing staff and works with the Nurse Manager to ensure adequate coverage of the nursing areas at the clinic.
- Assists in the training of new associates as appropriate.
- Maintains and sterilizes medical devices as required by manufacturer’s instructions and CSV protocol.
- Shuts down clinical equipment at end of day as per manual.
- Treats all patient information confidential in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Communicates and demonstrates the mission, vision and goals of the center.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to exercise good judgment, work flexible hours, and attends meetings and workshops.
- Good supervisory skills.
- Computer literate.
- Knowledge of electronic medical records.
- Ability to function independently; provide attention to detail; work under pressure and prioritize multiple projects.
- Culturally sensitive to the population served by a community primary health care center.
- Able to document in the medical record all pertinent information according the established standard of care.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Current LVN license from the State of Texas and CPR card.
- One-year experience in nursing preferred.
- Current Immunization record.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
